Appeal for Unity in the Church

The message was brought by Rev. Tim Powers on Sept 13, 2026.

We’re seeing so much scripture fulfilled. We see a uniting, but it’s not the Church. We have to unite among the churches. I’m not talking about heretics or unbelievers. I’m talking about people who are saved. Sin among those who are Christians is a divider. We need to live according to the Word. Get rid of sin and pride and be unified. After 9/11, the entire Congress sang “God Bless America”. We saw no arguments. For a while the country was strong, united for a common purpose. People were praying. Through the years the division came again.

First Corinthians 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

There is more unity in the world than we know, and it should alarm us. Groups that do not get along are unifying for a specific purpose. What has the Church been doing?  There has been lots of arguing. Some denominations have allowed things into them that should not be. Some have approved homosexuals behind pulpits, and that should not happen. My plea is the same as Paul’s to the church at Corinth. He said this by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, desiring He should bring us together. We should all speak the same, of Jesus Christ and him crucified. The gospel is the uniting thing for the Church. Sound doctrine is what we should be showing and telling others. Being born again. Being a new creature in Christ. We won’t agree on everything, but we are to be unified in Christ.

We’re not letting the gospel unite us. Teaching specifics comes at other times. After a person has saved, those things can be taught. Paul found out the house of Chloe was teaching another gospel. We hear too many feel-good messages. Many are full of false doctrine. Heretics are out there. The only message of hope is in Jesus Christ and him crucified. Look at verse 12. You may like someone’s style more than others. One person may be more flowery in their speech. But did they save anyone? There will be no division in heaven. The philosophy that “I’m right and you’re wrong” is spread too much. I understand doctrine, but the lost person does not. He/she needs to hear about Jesus! Then show them how to live after salvation. There is no magic prayer. There is no repeat after me prayer. It takes true repentance to be born again. Every sinner needs to hear about repentance and salvation.

Inside the church, the people are not to live like the devil. Don’t allow things to infiltrate the church that should not be there. We must love like we should. Don’t look to men for everything. Look to God. The downward progression in the church at Corinth is happening today. When the church is divided, cults rise. What did Paul ask?  Is Christ divided?  No. He is not.  Then why are we? Was Paul crucified for you?  Was I?  Was Bob? No.   Jesus was crucified. Did I baptize anyone?  No. Baptism is done in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

To close out look at First Corinthians 2:2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.  Let’s unite.  Let’s make sure the lost and dying world sees Jesus and knows that He was crucified for their sins and rose again.  Let’s pray earnestly for this.
