Mark 4:35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. 36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
The one thing I want you to remember through this message is stated in verse 35: “let us pass over unto the other side.” Jesus said they were going to the other side–it was done. Back in Genesis, Jesus told Satan what He was going to do to him. And it happened when Jesus died. Jesus is going to get his followers to the other side.
Troubles and storms will come for all of us BUT we will get to the other side of them. We’re saved and Jesus will go through these with us. Don’t take your eyes off him. Storms of life are real. People are hurting. They’re scared because they don’t know what to expect. Some may feel like they’re going to drown. Have you ever asked, “where’s Jesus?” I’ve been there. December 6, 2018, is a day I will never forget. It started as a normal day: go to work, eat lunch with my wife, go home to my family. We went out to eat and from there it all changed. (For purposes of the message, some details are being let out). When we got home, we were helping my father-in-law look for his wallet. It was already dark. I found him under a tree in the yard. He was dead and a gun was near him. He had taken his life. I felt like I was drowning. All I could say was “Jesus.” Some of you here are going through strong storms now. Asking why. Asking “Lord, don’t you care that I’m going through this?” That’s what the disciples said.
I put the whole situation on myself to take care of my family instead of letting the Lord take care of it. We must remember HE is in the boat! No matter the storm, HE is there! I just couldn’t realize that. The disciples forgot it. I forgot Jesus promised to get me through. I didn’t have to do that by myself. I got bitter over the situation. I didn’t know what to do. I look back at the mistakes I made that year and know that I should have trusted Jesus right off the bat.
We’ve all been here. We’ve asked Jesus “do you not care? Do you not see what’s happening to me?” When the disciples said this to Jesus, He cried out “PEACE BE STILL.” The winds ceased. Smooth sailing. We must realize that sometimes it’s not the storm Jesus calms. Sometimes He calms us, you and me. He gives us peace inside saying “I’ve got it.” He is the Master of the Seas.
It took nine months for our family to get the autopsy report. Turns out my father-in-law was a very sick man. He was full of infection that affected his brain causing him to take his life. He was a man of God. I knew he was. I couldn’t understand how or why he could do what he did. Now we know why. I have no doubt that he’s in heaven. Because of what occurred in his brain due to mass infection, he wasn’t able to think clearly.
I’m here as one who’s been through a really bad storm to remind us all that we need to pray. We need to curl up next to Jesus remembering what he said in the first verse I read Let us pass over unto the other side. If something happens in your situation. If it doesn’t work out how you hoped, guess what you will make it to the other side. One day ALL OF IT WILL BE OKAY!
We may very well ask the same questions the disciples did. Remember what Jesus said. And remember these: Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose and John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. We don’t have to go through storms alone!
