Assurance of Salvation by Eddie Foster

First John 5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

We can leave here today knowing we’re not lost. When we doubt our salvation, there is no fulness of joy. John’s purpose for writing this book is given in Chapter 1 verse 4: And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. Nothing brings more joy than knowing you’re saved. Doubting will hinder our service for the Lord.  You’ve got to get saved and know you’re saved to do anything for the Lord.  Doubting will keep you from getting others saved; a person has to believe it’s good before he can convince others. The hope for all us lies in Jesus Christ.

Why do people doubt?  There is too much emphasis on feelings. Salvation isn’t based on feelings. They change from day to day.  The experience of salvation isn’t the same for every person. In Matthew 9 Jesus simply told Matthew to “follow me” and he did. That was it. Yet Saul was struck blind on the Damascus Road and he heard the voice of God.  Most people will have an experience more like Matthew’s.  There is too much emphasis on works. God expects good works out of his children but we’re not saved or kept by works.  We were saved by grace through faith and that alone.  It was not of works.  Jesus is the only way to get in a right relationship with God.  Others doubt it because they are not familiar with the Bible.  God’s Word tells us.  The blood secures; the Word assures. A person is saved because the Bible says it. We don’t need any other confirmation or a supernatural sign.

How can we know?  God said so and he cannot lie.  First John 3:14 also gives a way:  We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. We love each other.  Romans 8:16 says The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. The Holy Spirit lives in the heart of every believer. He comes in when we get saved. Romans 10:13 says  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  If we call on him in faith and believe, we’re saved.  I’m a “whosoever”!!!  I know I’m saved because I prayed and asked Jesus to save me.

Salvation is free for the asking. Eternal life is in the person of Jesus Christ.  Get it settled today. You can know you’re saved.
