Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in t e likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The Son from everlasting came from his position in heaven and lowered himself. He spent zero time boosting up his name. He spoke of himself not in empty words. In 33 years of life he showed people who the Father is. He’d say if we love the Father we’d love him. He gave all glory to the Father and the Father gave him honor. His desire was that all believe on him and the Father who sent him. Even standing outside Lazarus’ sealed tomb he prayed, not because he needed to but for the sake of the people. He wanted them to hear his prayer and know it wasn’t a trick but the power of God that brought Lazarus back to life. Jesus cried out “Lazarus, come forth” and he did. Not needing the grave clothes any longer Jesus said to lose him and let him go.
We all did what we wanted until we ran into the gospel. We can’t hide from Jesus. At his name every knee will bow and even the most ardent atheist and hardened sinner will admit God and Jesus were right and they were wrong. The gospel of Jesus Christ can be trusted. Jesus was God’s word embodied in human flesh. If every person will bow, I’d rather bow now, in this life. We can sell out to anything and make it our life goal but when judgment comes it had better be God to whom we have sold out. Kneel in this life first so that in the next life there will be no fear in meeting him. To have him as Savior we must bow to his name. Never lose confidence in Jesus. He may not answer how we want but what we have will be good and right. Hold fast your confidence until the end. He is worthy of our complete trust. The name above all others is not Satan or some great person in history. It’s Jesus and we can safely trust him. What a lovely name!
Life doesn’t always give us all we want. It’s not always a bed of roses. BUT God never fails. Bow before him with your doubts and questions. He always provides. He corrects us when we get out of line just like a good Father. When the disciples needed to learn Jesus taught them. If we would talk to him more how much better life would go for us. In him is victory and peace. He’s the Good Shepherd who gave his life for the sheep. He knows what it’s like to climb a steep hill. You’ll not make it on your own. He climbed Calvary so that no mountain we climb can be compared to it. Because of what he did for us he is highly exalted.
It doesn’t matter if our name is remembered. He knows our name and to us his name should be far above others. There is no name higher than the name of Jesus. When all are judged, those who trusted Jesus go to heaven and those who didn’t go to the lake of fire. Jesus’ name will still be above all. He’ll stand with us. At his name the Father will give us entry into heaven. Jesus cares about us and will get us through each day, each year, and all the way to eternity.
Keep him in your heart. Before we know it, we’ll see him.
