A blind man was brought to Jesus. At first the man was not completely healed. His view was distorted. If the only view you have of Jesus is distorted, you need help. If all you want is half-way salvation or a half-way Savior, don't come to Jesus. He went all the way for us; we must do the same. Was the man's view distorted because Jesus had lost his touch? Was Jesus having difficulty in healing this man? At first glance some might think so. We're not really told why this happened. I believe it was the man's fault. After Jesus led him out of town and touched him, he asked the man if he was seeing as he should. I ask you. Are you seeing as you should? Do you see Jesus as you should?
Mark 8:22-26 And he [Jesus] cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly. And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
This man may have been blind since birth. He came to Jesus, so he wanted to see. But was he really ready for the light? Are you ready to see THE LIGHT, to see the power of God? You cannot have one foot in and one foot out. It doesn't work that way. You can't give the Lord part of your soul and keep the rest. Jesus cannot save until we let it all go. Jesus took this man, in the darkness of his blindness, by the hand. The man didn't have to grope and try to find Jesus. If we come to God in faith and reach out, Jesus will find us. The Lord led him out of the town. He leads us as we believe. He's leading us to a place of complete wholeness. Life wraps around us with all its problems, and we feel we can't get out. Let Jesus lead. When he puts his hand upon you, you know your need and that he can help.
Jesus asked the man if he was seeing as he should. The man saw men as trees walking. Was this distorted vision the fault of Jesus? Others had been healed. Had Jesus failed or made a mistake? Have you said I tried Jesus? Christianity just doesn't work for me. The problem does not lie in God. It is in you. So, I ask you. Are you seeing like you should? Are you changed? Forgiven? Has your life been turned around? If the answer is no, the problem is not Jesus. Think of it this way. You've been way down in deep water and you're making your way out. When you look toward the light, what you see is blurred as in a haze—distorted. The closer you get to the light the better your vision becomes. Jesus wants you to go to heaven, to be whole, to have it all. You cannot be half saved. You must break through the surface as a person coming out of the deep water.
The man's hesitation caused the limitation. He was used to the darkness. Maybe he was afraid of the responsibility of seeing or how his life would change. Are you used to the darkness? Are you ready to see? Do you want to stay in a little bit of darkness? You must turn it all over to Jesus. Was it ok with Jesus for the man to have this distorted vision? No. Neither is it ok for us to give a part of ourselves to God. With a glimpse of Jesus you'll never be the same again. Even if you won't let go of the darkness and let Jesus save you, you'll never be satisfied with the hazy view. You can't go back to that darkness and find peace.
Jesus put his hands on the man again and told him to look up. The man trusted him; then he saw clearly. His view was no longer distorted. He was no longer blind. Once he could fully see he was happy. You too must trust Jesus all the way. In verse 26 Jesus told the man not to go back to town. We need not go back to our darkness; we must follow Jesus. Let him make us his own.
Unless we see fully and clearly, it won't do us any good. Come. Trust him. Get a clear view of God and you too can have undistorted vision.
Pray the unsaved in the service. We have many associated with the church who are sick and need prayer.
