The message was brought by Rev. Tim Powers on Jan 4, 2026. The scripture is from Daniel 5:1-5 and verse 25-25: 1 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand. 2 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein. 3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them. 4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. 5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. 25 And this is the writing that was written, Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin. 26 This is the interpretation of the thing: Mene; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it. 27 Tekel; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. 28 Peres; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
We’re seeing the world heading to the end. There is a spirit of Babylon everywhere–a one-world government, one-world monetary system, and a one-world religion are setting up. We need to be watching and warning others about what’s coming. The city of Babylon is mentioned many times in the Bible. It was a great city, maybe like we think of Vegas today. There has been no place like it before or since its time in the Bible. It was glorious. The rulers and armies of the city had conquered the known world. And there was peace for a while. But now Belshazzar is in charge. The people got comfortable and were feasting instead of fasting–not being watchful of what was going on. They felt secure thinking no one could take them over. The enemy was encamped outside their impenetrable walls. Still, they felt safe. But the enemy was sowing discord.
Here I have to say to us in America that the enemy has come in. We’re not being watchful of what is happening inside our own country. We’ve let people in our gates and public offices who shouldn’t be there. Belshazzar was doing the same. He made a feast to celebrate. We’re there now. There was immense pride in Babylon and there is in America. Belshazzar saw the discord but disregarded it. Many are sowing discord in the US. We can’t continue to ignore it as Belshazzar did.
Belshazzar had the vessels of God brought to his party to use for their drunkenness. They defiled the God of heaven using them in such a way. We think the people then worshipped all these idols–and they did–but we also worship many gods. The worship of Baal was nothing but sexual perversion–is that not here! They worshipped gods of excess and riches–is that not here! The worship of slothfulness is here too! We’re considered the Middle Class but what do we want–more and more. We don’t worship the true and living God as we should. Many are never satisfied.
The handwriting on the wall was there for Belshazzar and we can see it too. It made his knees shake. He called upon his gods to interpret it but no one could. They looked everywhere but the right place. We haven’t looked to God and Jesus Christ as we should. We’ve cheapened Christianity. Why do we see everything happening in our country and not call on God? Judgment is coming. We better wake up. I want to see God more. Let’s put our faith back in HIM and not in any man. The only Savior of the world is Jesus. Trust HIM. Don’t be feasting instead of fasting. The enemy is knocking at the door.
At the end of the chapter we see that Daniel was the one to interpret the dream. Read it again above. Note: our days are numbered. All the good we do is weighed down by sin. There is too much pride. We see history repeating itself. Atheism is on the rise. Sexual perversion is on the rise. Drugs. Bars. Belshazzar’s kingdom was divided. The US is more divided than ever and it’s getting worse and worse. The Bible says a house divided against itself cannot stand. We’ve allowed too much to enter our country. Christianity and capitalism are hated.
A river flowed through Babylon and even though the walls were safe, the enemy used the river to get in. While he was feasting, the enemy had rerouted the water so levels would be low enough for them to get in unharmed. He should have been watching and listening to the discord being sown by the enemy that crept in. Babylon was overtaken just as the handwriting said.
We’ve been feasting instead of fasting. The enemy is upon us. These are not conspiracy theories. Things are going on around us. Look and see. We were founded upon Christianity, but we’re turning away from that. A majority rules here. If the wrong people and ideas gain control the country will be gone. We’ll see a nation of Socialism and Communism without our own borders and worse. We know what God has done for us, yet we continue to defile him time and time again.
We need to fast from evil. Fast of the other gods that consume our time and energy. Something big is about to happen. Let’s get right with God. Let HIM change us all. Begin fasting instead of feasting. Let’s get on our knees and see what God wants from us. Ask HIM to show you where you need to change. Let’s pray and seek God.
