God’s Universal Offer of Salvation

The message was brought by Rev. Eddie Foster on Feb 9, 2025.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Paul takes great pains to make it clear that Jesus died for the whole world.  I’m not a rocket scientist, but verse 13 seems pretty clear to me:  WHOSOEVER.

There is no national restriction on salvation. Jesus didn’t just die for the Jews.  Verse 12 says there is no difference between Jews and Gentiles (Greeks) when it comes to salvation. He sees everyone the same regardless of skin color or nationality.

There is no material restriction on salvation. It’s available to all.  Joseph of Arimathea was a wealthy ruler in Israel, yet he followed Jesus. There was a rich young ruler Jesus mentioned; he loved his riches more than following Jesus. Two rich men who reacted differently to Jesus. The poor widow gave all she had as an offering. She believed and was accepted though poor. The disciples came from all backgrounds. Rich or poor can be saved.

There is no mental restriction to salvation. Intellect doesn’t matter. The third verse of the song “The Love of God” was found on the walls of an insane asylum. Clearly he understood what God’s love was about. He had it right. You cannot explain God’s love and it’s available to anyone.

There is no moral restriction to salvation.  You cannot change your ways or become a better person to be a Christian. There is no self reform in salvation.  Jesus is the one who makes the change. The woman of Samaria was told by Jesus all about living water and she asked for a drink of it. The Lord changed her that day; she had had five husbands and was living with a man to whom she wasn’t married.  Still Jesus saved her. Zachaeus was a despised tax collector. He’d heard of Jesus and climbed a tree in order to see him when he came to Jericho.  The Lord stopped right at the tree, called him by name and he received Jesus that day. The Lord saved him. He restored what he had stolen from people. Saul was on the road to Damascus to jail and even kill believers in Christ. On the road he met Jesus and was struck blind. Ananias came to restore his sight but Saul was saved that day on the road. God changed him. People from all backgrounds can be saved because Jesus came to save the lost.

There is no age restriction to salvation. I don’t know when the age of accountability is, but when God convicts a person of his/her sins, that’s the time to come to him for salvation. The universal condition is for WHOSOEVER calls on the name of the Lord. What must happen?  Repentance from sin, calling on the Lord admitting to being a sinner who needs a Savior. It’s a change of mind and a change of purpose. Salvation is not based on feelings. I definitely felt something the day that happened to me, but the promise is if we ask him to save us, he will.  We must be sorry we have sinned against God and have an inward turning away from sin toward God.  A person must personally believe for God to save him/her. Christ must be confessed before the world. When something this great happens to you, it’s natural to do this. The woman of Samaria couldn’t keep it to herself. She ran into town telling everyone that Jesus must be the Christ.

What are the results of all this?  You shall be saved. Guaranteed. It’s what the Bible says. God doesn’t lie. He said whosoever calls on the name of the Lord, and if you do that he will save you. You can deny the need for this but it won’t change it. Judgment is real. Hell is a real place of screams and  torment for eternity. The rich man who went to hell said he was tormented in the flames. He asked for a drop of water to cool his tongue. No mercy came. No relief came. Come to Jesus now, before it’s too late. Call on his name and he will save you.

God has always demanded a blood sacrifice. In the Old Testament the blood of an animal was needed, but at Calvary Jesus became the final sacrifice. No more animal blood needed. It’s the blood of Jesus that paid the penalty for sin when he gave the ultimate sacrifice of his life on the cross. He obtained eternal salvation once and for all. Believe in him. He’s ready, willing and able to save you. Just ask him. It’s free. Call on the name of the Lord.
