We all like something free. God has provided something free to everyone. I don’t know why some will not accept it.
John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? 34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
All who were born into slavery wanted to be free. All people desire freedom. This search has brought wars and more throughout history. From a physical sense no one has been truly emancipated. Many are under some form of bondage. In this scripture, they thought because they were of Abraham’s ancestry they were never in bondage. They had forgotten about the slavery in Egypt. Forgotten about Daniel and the three Hebrews In bondage to Babylon. At this very time they were under the rule of Rome. What audacity to make the statement that day! They were also enslaved by religion, bigotry, formalism, holding the traditions of men above the things of God.
As Americans I thank God for our freedom. In 1776 the Declaration of Independence was written and approved. It was a day of deliverance that’s still celebrated. John Adams recognized it was from God and our country’s need for Him. By reading the document we see they knew God was Creator and He created man. We did not evolve. The Almighty God created it all.
Spiritual liberty consists of deliverance from sin and its penalties. There was a day we were under the dominion of sin and Satan. As saved people we are now under God in the “kingdom of His dear Son”. Why would Jesus go through what he did on the cross? To deliver us from bondage of sin and the authority of man. God is the God of Deliverance. Aren’t you glad!
There are many examples in the Bible of deliverance. Lot was delivered before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Daniel tells us of two— the three Hebrew children were delivered in and from the fire while Daniel was delivered from a den of lions. Jonah rebelled and ran the other way. He ended up in the belly of a whale. He repented and was delivered. Many times the apostles were delivered from bad circumstances. God IS a God of deliverance!
Today can be your day of independence. So many are slaves to alcohol, drugs, and much more. People desire to be free. Call on Jesus. He’s the answer. Prior to declaring independence our nation could tolerate no more tyranny. The 13 colonies were founded and began this great nation we call America. People tolerate Satan’s oppression, desiring freedom, but not sure how. The Lord can break the chain. The Lord passed by my way one day and convicted me of my sins. I was delivered when I turned to God and repented. Let this be your spiritual declaration of independence! Then you can be free indeed!
