John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. 41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. 42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? 43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. 44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
People saw Jesus as just another man’s son. Look back at verse 40. When Jesus said this, it caused the Jews to murmur. How could he say he was THE SON? They knew his parents–Joseph and Mary. They knew where he was from–Nazareth. How could he claim to be the Son of God? In verse 43 he commented about their murmuring. He was correcting their idea of him. They saw only the humanity of Jesus and truly he was. He went through what we did as a baby, a child and a young man. Now he’s presenting himself as the Son of God. This is something we must never forget: Jesus is entirely man and entirely God. He was sent by the Father to save us so we could be children of God.
Do you really believe Jesus is the only begotten Son of God? In one manner, he was just a man. But the difference is he had no earthly father. God was his father. We have to drop all our ideas of who he is and believe that he is the Son of God, not just a historical figure. He’s not to be compared to Mohammad, Buddha or any other religious figure. He’s not the center of religion; he’s the center of salvation. By seeing Jesus as God’s Son we have God as our heavenly Father; we can be changed. Only one can say he’s the Son of God–Jesus. See him as God, the Son.
How does seeing Jesus correctly affect you? Are you just used to him? Has he lost his meaning? We change. However, we must keep believing Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. It keeps me going. The devil hates it when we declare Jesus to be the Son of God. The response is that we either reject him or accept him as the Son of God. I rejected him for a long time. But then I finally accepted him. He delivered me from sin and gave me everlasting life. Then the change came. I’ve not been perfect. I’ve done things wrong. Jesus always lets us know when we do wrong. Let’s stick with him.
Many scriptures tell us Jesus is the Son of God and that God was pleased with him. Why can’t we be satisfied? The faith that will keep you is the faith that believes Jesus is God, the Son. Peter declared it when Jesus asked the disciples who they thought he was. When we hold this in our hearts, the gates of hell cannot prevail against us.
How close are you to the Lord? Do you still believe Jesus is God, the Son? Is he only a formality in your life? How much fellowship do you have with him?
