Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Our Leader will never change. Earthly leaders change parties, opinions and on and on. God has always been the same and always will be.
People change. We age and change physically. We ought to be changing and growing spiritually, going deeper in the Word of God. Sadly, some have drifted away. We’re either growing or drifting. Moods change. I’m not on an even keel. You aren’t either. Circumstances change–the loss of a job, the loss of health, the loss of loved ones. Not only people, places change. Our little town has changed a lot over the years. Vocabulary changes in some. Some see bad as good and good as bad. The Bible told us that would happen. With all these things we see changing, here are some things that never change.
The Bible: When the world is on fire, the Word of God will stand. Psalms 119:89 says For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. People try to change the Bible. They say it’s wrong, but that still doesn’t change it. The flood came even though the people didn’t believe it would. People didn’t believe Sodom would be destroyed, but it was. Fire and brimstone came down from heaven.
God’s attitude toward sin: We’re getting used to things we shouldn’t. We’re used to the profanity. It still bothers me. I don’t want to hear it, but people aren’t as respectful around Christians as they used to be. We’re getting used to immorality. The labels have been changed; people don’t want sin called sin. We excuse it, allowing the darkness to kill our light. We’ve developed an “I don’t care” attitude and all the while sin is destroying lives. In society, nothing is wrong. But if the Word of God says something is wrong, it’s wrong. Everyone sins. We all need a Savior. We will never solve the problems around us until the sin problem is dealt with. Only Christ can put a new person inside. We are made a new creation in Christ Jesus. You can know you’ve been saved! We still believe First John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
God’s attitude toward sinners hasn’t changed: God still hates sin BUT he still loves sinners. We too are to hate sin. But we must be careful here and remember that we must love the sinner.
The way to heaven hasn’t changed: I’ll say it again. “Jesus Christ is not a good way to heaven; he’s the only way.” John 14:6 tells us he’s the way. If you haven’t come by the way of the cross of Jesus Christ, you won’t go to heaven. There is no other way. The Bible says there is no other name under heaven whereby we can be saved. God has always had only one way–Jesus Christ. There was one way in Noah’s day: the ark. In Moses’ day there was one way–blood on the doorposts was required to have the death angel pass by the house. In Rahab’s day, there was one way. Those inside the house with the scarlet thread were saved from destruction.
I’m glad I’m serving an unchanging God. Are you serving him?
