II Chronicles 20:12 O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.
Have you ever been in a situation you didn’t know what to do? I have. I want to do what Jehoshaphat did: go to the Lord. I need to see what he wants me to do. It was out of fear that Jehoshaphat sought the Lord. That’s okay. Remember the words of this old song. “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in his wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace.” When we look to the Lord, we are doing the right thing.
Read this chapter. The enemy was coming against Judah and Jehoshaphat was afraid. He proclaimed a fast and went to the Lord seeking help. God’s extremity is our opportunity. Just because we got saved doesn’t mean we’ll escape troubles and trials….but we will escape them in the life to come. Daniel faced a den of lions. The three Hebrew children faced a fiery furnace. God didn’t deliver them from it but was with them in it. The lion’s jaws were locked. The three Hebrews didn’t even smell like smoke. God never forsakes us. It’s our job to trust God; his is to deliver. Faith and fear cannot coexist. I don’t know what’s going to happen to me, but I’m a winner either way. Cast your fear at the feet of Jesus and leave it there. Too many bring to their altar of prayer and lay it down, but when they get up they pick up their fear again. Leave it. Trust him to work things out. And remember God doesn’t need our help. Jehoshaphat left his fear with the Lord and victory came!
We need to have real gratitude. Everything we have is from God. If we come from a heart expecting nothing, we will be grateful. Remember the battle is not ours. It is God’s. David realized this when he fought Goliath. God fought for him and God has never lost a battle! In Christ we are more than conquerors. You can’t deliver yourself. The wise thing to do is ask God for help. Let him deliver you. That’s what you do when you don’t know what to do.
