Mustard Seed or Mountain Size Faith?

What we need above everything else is to keep believing in God.We read of two objects in nature– a mountain and a mustard seed. Which is the most powerful? It’s not the mountain.

Matthew 19:19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Jesus had come down from the Mount of Transfiguration with Peter, James and John. Peter describes it has having seen the glory of the Master on the holy mount. The Word of God is a sure word just as the voice they heard on the mountain that day. We need nothing more to count on than we have. There are mountains in life that try to stop us or get in the way. We get over one and then there’s another. The devil doesn’t let up. He didn’t let up on Jesus either. We might have health issues or a financial one. There might be problems with children.  It’s our nature to worry. The decrease in the value of the dollar is a worry to those on fixed incomes. It takes more and more. We wonder what’s going to happen next and get stressed out over what’s happening now. David said he saw trouble on every side. Jesus taught a lot on trusting him. We overcome with faith. It’s a choice to believe the mountain or the Master. And that choice is ours. In all the troubles, don’t say “why, Lord?” Be focused on the Master and when we are, IT IS POSSIBLE.

Jesus and the disciples were surrounded by mountains. It was at Mount Herman near Syria and the tallest mountain in Palestine. Jesus said they’d have to face the mountains to get out of there back to Galilee. God has led us safe thus far. He said if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.  When he said “this mountain” he was referring to Mount Hermon. It is high enough to have snow on the top and they may have taken winter gear with them for the trip. There may have been a mustard plant nearby. Based on what he said, is it the size of the seed or the mountain that matters? You don’t need a mountain size faith to face a mountain. All you need is a mustard seed size. Does it hold that much power? Yes! How? Because you believe in the mountain mover. Nothing is impossible with God. We have to hang onto this. We need to do more than survive; we can excel and it’s through faith in the one who makes a way.

You may be worn out. You may not be feeling it. It’s not about feeling. We can lose our mind but still trust God. It’s about the size of the Master, not the size of the mountain. Don’t worry about the devil’s threats. Put your faith in the Master and he takes care of the rest. By him all things consist. He made it and keeps it together; can he not move our mountains!  Keep believing God.
