All By HIS Blood

It’s all through the blood, HIS blood. The value of the blood in our salvation is shown here in Hebrews. It’s hard sometimes to understand it all; that why we just have to believe. As we grow in Christ we learn more. The blood of Jesus is a crucial factor. None of us have the fullness of knowledge now but one day we will. It is not our sacrifice but HIS.  One time was all that was necessary. It all hinged on the sacrifice of his blood. Our sacrifices? They mean nothing. It’s all by his blood. If there is any thanks or praise, it belongs to the Lord. So that we could live, he died.

Hebrews 9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

All by HIS Blood. Christianity has become a broad term. The false churches play down Christianity and the sacrifice of Jesus as being the only true way to salvation. Even in the first century the Jews said Christians still had to go to the temple and do the sacrifices. It is Jesus, plus and minus nothing, that saves. The Gnostics played Jesus down to an ordinary man or if some lifted him up it was only to an angelic being. They didn’t see him as the son of God. Some believe God is one of many gods. Some teach that you do trust his sacrifice on the cross but say unless you’re baptized with water you are not saved. See what links man has gone to take away the power of the blood! Jesus did not need any help to go to the cross. Even if the whole world turned away he still made it up to Calvary’s hill How? By his own power and will. He hung there six hours and suffered by himself because he wanted to do it. He knew it took his blood and his life for us to be delivered from eternal hell and damnation. He knew that for us to be justified with God he had to die. Through our faith in him and him alone we are saved. All praise belongs to him!

It is all effective by his blood. Verse 11 tells us he is our High Priest. Under the law the High Priest went into the Holy of Holies once a year to sprinkle the blood of animals on the mercy seat. This was a symbol of what was to come. Jesus himself became that High Priest who offered God the atonement of sin. He laid down his life. It was not our blood. It was not the blood of something else. It is not by his blood and our good works. It is only through and by his blood! The only way for God to accept us was for Jesus, our Mediator, to take his own blood and sprinkle it on the mercy seat of God. Isaiah 53 says that God looked upon the sacrifice and was satisfied. We stand saved in the eyes of God through the blood of Jesus Christ. He died so we would not have to. Aren’t you glad for the sacrifice of the spotless Lamb of God!

Verses 13-14 show us the rituals of the Old Testament Law but then show the difference in Jesus.  There is no other way to be a Christian outside of the blood of Jesus. When Jesus offered his sacrifice to the Father, God gave the gift of eternal redemption for us. God the Father accepted the blood of his only begotten son in order to give such a glorious gift. Jesus took the judgment and wrath of God and through that sacrifice the Father gave us redemption. It’s all through the blood.

In us dwells no good thing. We’re simply covered by the blood. We’ll not stand before a Holy God and tell him to look at what we’ve done. We’ll stand there only in the covering of the blood. Where we fail, Jesus succeeded and he is able to lift us up in right standing. I want Jesus to stand beside me now and in that day.  Can we ask for a better Savior?

Verses 19-21 tell us how Moses took the blood of animals, mixed it with hyssop, and sprinkled it on the tabernacle and the people. In that same way we are covered by the blood of Jesus. For this new testament to be enforced, the testator had to die. Jesus said at the Last Supper that his blood was this new testament. We are saved because of his death and have eternal life because of his resurrection. That’s where enforcement comes in. We have a living Savior who can sprinkle us with his blood like Moses did in his day. He sprinkles it washing us clean. He ascended to the right hand of the Father and was given a name above every name.

That’s how bad we were. It took God’s son to sacrifice his life. God forbid that we’d play around with our Christian life and our relationship with Jesus. We should be like Paul and say that we want God to be magnified in our life. It’s all through the blood–the blood of Jesus Christ.
