The Finger of God

The testimony of those practicing dark arts in Egypt told the Pharaoh it was the finger of God working in the land. God’s hands are also at work.

Exodus 8:16 And the Lord said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt.17 And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.18 And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast.19 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said.

Isn’t this something! The third plague has happened. Pharaoh thought he had all kinds of power as did his magicians. They did have limited supernatural power that came from Satan. Stay away from this type of thing at all costs. There is one true power:  GOD. Only HE is on the throne. He and Satan don’t fight for it and Satan doesn’t have one. When you think of sports teams, there is a chance either side can win. Satan is defeated and has been since Jesus came out of the tomb. Sin was defeated along with the devil. The devil has his hands in many things but his power is limited. God, with one little finger, can do wonders. Imagine what he can do with his whole being. We may not understand his ways. He is working. He wants us to ask him for our needs even though he already knows what they are.

Plague 1:  water to blood. Aaron stretched out his rod across the waters and all of them turned to blood. Imagine how that stank. Pharaoh hardened his heart. I want God working for me not against me. Egypt had a stubborn refusal to accept the God of Israel as the one true God. I wish our nation would turn to God. People give credit to the devil but he can be stopped. The magicians came behind this act and turned water to blood as well.

Plague 2: frogs. Moses warned Pharaoh and he probably laughed.  Ha! Frogs. That won’t be bad. What could frogs do? They were everywhere. They had no idea how many would be upon their land. Frogs were in their bread pans, their homes and even their beds. Can you imagine the noise. The magicians could do the same thing. They took credit for what they did.

Plague 3: lice. Imagine lice numbering the grains of sand. Lice were everywhere on man and beast. There was a whole lot of scratching going on. God did it by one stretch of the rod into the dust. This time the magicians couldn’t do a thing. They can fake it a lot but they could not do what God could. We can’t, even in this modern day of technology and intelligence, do what God can. We do nothing at all. One finger of God turned dust to lice. Moses wasn’t scratching. No one in the land where Israel lived suffered through a thing. No one there was affected. When the world goes to scratching I want to enjoy peace and relief because God is working for me.

The magicians told Pharaoh it was the finger of God. Shame on us! We get discouraged by the way this world is going. Satan wants to keep us bound and working on making bricks for his city. Don’t listen. God is still God. He will come through. Look at what he can do with only a finger. Sonny shared that 27 got saved yesterday and 3 today. God is still working! Praise the Lord! The devil’s hand is nothing. Yes, it is greater than ours but is nothing compared to God. If the magicians can speak of God’s work, why can’t we?  Now is the time to trust God. If God can do this with a finger, imagine what he can do with 10, with two hands, two ears, two eyes, and legs. I need the finger of God in my life. What about you?
