The message was brought by Rev. Jack Sprinkle.
There is nothing as important as the old home church. It is the only institution that God is the head of. When you were born again you became a member of the church and God wrote your name in heaven.
Hebrews 12:23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect.
Do you believe God is whispering soft and low through the church? Some people think that unless the thunder rolls God’s not speaking. That’s not true. He whispers in the still small voice and we must be still to hear it. I am convinced that if we make contact with God in this modern, atheistic, agnostic day that it will be through the church, not any other organization. He spoke through prophets, scriptures and finally through his son. Now he whispers in the last days to his church.
The church means the “called out” ones. There was a time the church was respected and considered a guide. It’s not true today with many. I know things look bad but God is speaking. You’ll not get anywhere else what you get at church. That’s why Hebrews 10:25 tells us Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. The day is approaching. He is coming for those who are looking for him. When I look into your faces I see you want more. When you came to the end of your life and look back you’ll be glad for your association with the old home church. People are led to the Lord through the old home church. He uses us to do it. It’s THE CHURCH and God is counting on us.
God spoke to Adam and that very voice speaks to us today. Adam was told to dress the garden, work in it, and let it be first. He agreed. We don’t know how long he did things as he was supposed to do. He got involved with God’s movement. Today God says look what I have for you. You won’t get it at a ball game. I don’t have anything against sports but God speaks through the old home church. Our Father owns it all. We are rich, joint heirs through Christ. We heard about that at the old home church. It led us to the way. It gives us all the help we need to get through. God is near us and loves us.
He not only spoke to Adam; he spoke to Moses at the bush. Moses saw this bush and passed by it. He looked back at it and the bush spoke to him. God speaks to us the same way if we will just look for him. The bush talked to Moses. The church talks to us. I believe God wrote it down that you’re here today. When he opens the books and talks to you, you can smile. God wouldn’t have spoken if Moses had not turned back. We’re about to miss our open window! Peter and the disciples were in the boat. Jesus came walking on the water and would have passed them by had they not called out to him. Is he not saying to us today ‘here I am. Recognize me.’ Isn’t this the God we should serve. I think J. Vernon McGee is the one who said this. “You can’t go to heaven following the devil AND you can’t go to hell following Jesus.” The devil wants to kill and steal all he can from us but Jesus is not that way. He’s just a step or two away. I don’t want anything but Jesus! The old home church is the institution that God chose. If he chose it, should we not choose it too?
God spoke to the apostles on the Mount of Transfiguration. The very message carried from heaven to earth from Moses and Elijah is the same message today. Moses, Elijah and Jesus talked. Peter said it would be good to build three tabernacles, one for all three of them. God then spoke from heaven and said This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. That’s what the old home church is still saying. Don’t let it slip. We’ve only got one chance. It’s not my way or Bob’s way. It’s God’s way. Why did this event take place on the mountain. I think God is speaking through the church and saying it is the glorified body of Christ. We’re still in this body. We still make mistakes, but we’re connected to HIM. As time goes on, stick close to the old home church. Seek the old paths. God has glorified it with his presence and his Bible. Through the teaching of the old home church, one day he’ll call our name. Success is through obedience. Be faithful to a glorified God.
One day we’ll enter the eternal day. No more prayer requests. No more tears. I hear these things through the old home church. We are joint heirs with Jesus Christ. Everything he has is ours. Because of this we can walk up to God, in Jesus, just as he does. The closer I get to home the more I see the importance of association with the old home church. When we get to our final resting place we will be satisfied. God will be there. Jesus will be there. The Holy Spirit will be there. Other saints will be there. BUT Satan won’t be there! He’ll be in the lake of fire. Jesus wants us to follow him. In John 14 Jesus said I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. I’ve been preaching for 70 years that Jesus is coming back. If I preach another 70 he’ll still be coming back. Are you listening to the call of the old home church?
Many years ago an engineer told the people of Johnston that the dam was not safe. They ignored him. The next year he looked at it again and told them again the dam was not safe. They laughed. The didn’t listen. A few days later a young man came running to town and said the dam broke and people needed to run. They still ignored it. In less than 30 minutes thousands were killed because they wouldn’t listen. They laughed it off. Think about it. Think about what the old home church is saying today.
