What Road Are You on Today?

The message was brought by Bro. Joe Powers.

I don’t know the connection between you and the Lord and I’m glad I don’t know.  If you’re here without the Lord, you are lost. The only way to get in fellowship with him is to come to him.  I’ve been born twice, once in 1937 and again in 1970. I came to know the Lord and was born again. Born twice, die once.  Born once, die twice. If you’re not saved, you’ll die twice.

Romans 10:1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

What road are you on today? Stay here, we can’t. Go we must. The death angel will come for us all.  If we’re saved we’ll go to heaven; if we’re not saved we’ll go to hell. We’re traveling somewhere today.I remember downstairs in the basement when I knelt and got saved.  There is no preacher big enough to save you. You must trust what Jesus says in his Word. We have to come see him. God allowed his Son to die on Calvary so we could be born again. The scripture tells us of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They back up what the 66 books in our Holy Bible tell us. We need to listen to what God says.

I was on a road. I was in my 20’s and had only been to church once in my life.  I didn’t realize the road was a road to destruction. My wife got me to go to a revival meeting.  I went on Friday because that was usually the last night. God got hold of me. If you’re saved, you know it.  You can’t fool God or yourself. If you’re not saved, you will not go to heaven. What road are you on?

The book of Luke tells us of a man who went down from Jerusalem to Jericho.  We don’t know what’s going to happen to us on any given trip we take to Marion. This man fell among thieves who stripped him, robbed him and left him. The devil robbed mankind and he’s going to try to get to you no matter which road you’re on. This man was going down from the Promised Land of Jerusalem to Jericho. I don’t care which road you’re on today, there is a Good Samaritan there to help you. We never know what’s going to happen.  But if the road of death happens and you’re not saved, you’ll go to hell.

This trip down to Jericho stands out in scripture but in the book of Acts a religious man named Saul set out on a road.  He was working under the Law and had papers to arrest those who trusted Jesus. We need to walk with God. He knew who would be here this morning.  When I got the call a couple of weeks ago to come preach today, I had the message before I got off the call. God knew what would happen.

Saul’s papers were against God.  Things are this way today–against God.  If we’re following something outside of God we’re in trouble.  Saul got on the road to Damascus and Jesus was already there watching over his “youngin’s.”   You can try to sell the world a load of bad goods but they’ll stink when Jesus comes back. The dead in Christ will rise first and those who are alive in Christ will follow.  We must take God at his promise.

Look back at verses 6-7.  God speaks to our heart. Know that Jesus has already been here.  He’s already died. He’s already risen–on the third day. Now he’s seated at the right hand of the Father.  Call upon him. Believe God raised him from the dead. We have a trinity in God–Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You are a trinity–soul, mind, and body. You have life in you. God created you in the womb and you have a purpose. The soul never dies. This body, because of the sin of Adam and Eve, has to die. It will be a happy exchange for a person who knows the Lord. There’ll never be an ache or pain. Find life in God and find peace at the time of death.

God convicts so you can see you are lost.  You’re going to meet reality one day if you’re not saved. Verse 10 says For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  I don’t know how God does it.  I knelt and I felt God come in.  I know God let me pass from death unto life. Born once; die twice. Born twice; die once. I was born again.  When they say my last breath is gone, I will have died my only time.

The opportunity is world wise. Using this scripture is called the Romans Road. Everybody has to go down this road. If you’ve not been there with Jesus you need to go down it.  I got on it and I’m still on it. It’s not walking by any other way but faith. The Bible tells us in Revelation 20:15 that all names not written in the Book will go to hell. The fire is hot and it’s not quenched. You will burn forever and forever and forever if you go there.

Who can be saved? Verse 11 says Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.  How?  Verse 14 says How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?  You must hear the gospel. It will be the happiest time you ever had.  Turn your heart over to him. Getting saved is not a process of a little at a time.  My kids each came out all at one time when they were born. Why are people not getting saved?  Verse 16 says they have not all obeyed the gospel.

Who?  Whosever

How? Hear the gospel

Why not?  They don’t obey.

In Acts 24 Paul went before Felix.  Look at what happened.

23 And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him. 24 And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ. 25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

I don’t find anywhere else where Felix called for Paul and got saved.  Procrastination is killing our world. People say they have a long time to live and a short time to get there. I say you have a short time to live and a long time to be gone.  People simply don’t get saved because they don’t obey the gospel.

People know.  Felix heard and trembled.  That used to happen; now the gospel is like pouring water on a duck’s back.  If anyone from this congregation today goes to hell, you will remember this message. You’ll see my face. This is as serious as a heart attack. If you don’t know you’re saved, make a move today.  Make sure you’re pure in the sight of God and on the right road.
