These are trying times and the Lord reminds us he is thinking of us.
Psalms 40:5 Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
I’ve received cards in the mail in times of rejoicing and in battles of health or other things. Sometimes they come for no reason. I’ve gotten cards that just say “thinking of you.” I appreciate that thought. Have you ever been in bed and think you’ve got everything all locked down for the night and feel like something isn’t right. I’ve often thought it’s the nudge of the Lord. I’ve gotten up and checked the entire house before. I’ve got a chair beside my bed that I keep my stuff in. Think about this: the Lord is sitting right there beside us all the time.
The first part of verse 5 says many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done. There is much to thank God for. The things we see and know that he has done are numerous. But there is so much more. Thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee. His thoughts are with us. There are so many blessings and benefits. We have a lot to pray about, lots on our mind. David said this about the thoughts of God to us: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. We can’t even begin to realize his thoughts for us. He works a lot more than we realize. David said the list of God’s thoughts doesn’t end.
That card we receive lets us know someone is thinking of us. It shows love. The devil has plans for us too and sends his ‘cards’ our way. In Jeremiah 29:11 we find for I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Do we really believe that we serve a God who thinks of us that much? He’s with us and he’s thinking of us. He sent his Son to us; we’ve been adopted into his family. He thinks of us as his only child. A parent’s thoughts are always on his or her kids. We could never be to a son or daughter like God is to us and for us. He cares so much for us that we’re on his mind 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We should praise him for that!
How does that make you feel to know God’s thoughts are of you? Loved. Never alone. Our struggles seem small because to God they are. It’s wonderful to be in someone’s thoughts all the time. He certainly thinks more about us than we do him. He doesn’t have to care for us that much but He does!
