Come Down Before My Child Dies

A statement was made by a man in Capernaum as he looked Jesus in the eyes.  He didn’t know what to do or where to turn.  He heard Jesus was coming and left the bedside of his dying son to see him.  This man Jesus had power to deliver.  We can still go to God for deliverance.  We can still seek Jesus for the impossible.  A reason people don’t get prayers answered is they aren’t seeking.  Don’t run away from God.  Run to him.  If this man found Jesus, you can too.

John 4: 46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.52 Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.

Thank God for how this chapter closes.  Jesus’ first miracle was in Cana in the direction of Capernaum.  It was a miracle of providence because he provided what the wedding needed—the new wine.  This is not what’s found in a liquor store.  There’s a lot of bitter water these days but Jesus is still around.  No matter how bitter and corrupt, Jesus can take it and make it something good.  There’s nothing like the juice God makes!  He took the old water of our soul and made it whole.

Jesus went from Cana into Samaria and Jerusalem and worked his way up every corner of the Promised Land.  No matter your location Jesus is coming to you.  He’s here and on the way.  Whatever needs you might have—children, family, whatever—there is a Savior headed your way.  Search it out.  You can find the devil everywhere you look but you can find Jesus too.  Stop believing the lies of the devil and start trusting the Bible.  Stop trusting the media and the government system; these are arms the devil uses for destruction.  There is a Savior coming your way.  They that see the Lord will find him if they search for him with all their heart.

The nobleman was well to do but remember everyone is on even ground when it comes to seeking Jesus.  The richest of the rich and the poorest of the poor are the same.  Just because a person is poor doesn’t save him.  Just because we’re Americans doesn’t save our soul.  Good Americans have died lost and gone to hell.  All sin counts.  Those of all levels of society have and can seek Jesus.

Here was a rich man.  His son was sick.  It was quickly killing him.  Nothing they tried worked.  Whether rich or poor, wicked or good, all are in a sickbed of sin and the wages of sin is death.  The nobleman could do nothing.  Their best try produced nothing.  Time was running out.  Somebody told him Jesus was in town.

There is no one else to turn to.  No one else can help America, our people, you and me.  Lots of people put their trust in the President but the One who needs to run this country is Almighty God.  Let the world know Jesus is in town.  He came to seek and save the lost and restore the peace we’ll never have in sin.  There is no time left to fool around.  Time is pressing.  We should continue to run to Jesus.

This nobleman sought the Lord.  Oh, that we would.  Then we wouldn’t feel so defeated.  He can do the important in our lives if we seek him.  It’s urgent that we have the Lord in our lives.  We don’t have time for mechanical prayers.  We all know someone who needs Jesus.  The nobleman said his son didn’t have much time.  Jesus came for our soul and its lost condition.  The only thing between us and hell is Jesus Christ.  When we humble ourselves before him, he’ll start with our greatest need and from the heart outward put life back together.  The only sanity in this world is Jesus.  He can give us his full attention and full power as if we were the only one in need.

The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.  Jesus didn’t have to be where the boy was to help him.  He doesn’t have to be here in the flesh.  Through his Word we find what we need.  The man took Jesus at his word and headed home.  He was met by his servants who gave him the news that his son was well.  He asked what time he got better and it was at the same hour Jesus spoke the words to him.  Believe it!

Believe Jesus to the point of seeking him.  It brings life here and life everlasting.  Jesus is waiting.  He’ll open the door if you seek him.
