This is important in an everyday manner. The caution is to pay attention to how we’re building on the foundation. If we’re saved, Jesus Christ is our foundation. I’m confident in the foundation. When I think of building on that foundation it makes me stop and think about whether I’m doing it right.
We had a phenomenal revival last week. What has the Lord given you from that to help you build stronger on the foundation?
I Corinthians 3: 9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Wood, hay, stubble. Think about the reason for the burn law right now. When fire comes in contact with wood there is a slow burn; it takes a while. Hay and stubble are quicker but all three burn up and there is nothing left. God has never given us anything worthless. If we live in the flesh we’ll reap rewards of wood, hay, and stubble. It will be gone because it won’t stand the fire. Gold, silver and precious stones get hot enough to melt, but the gold is still gold; the silver is still silver. If it liquefies or vaporizes, it is still gold and silver. Gold dust is still gold. A diamond may be big or small but a jeweler can still make money because it’s real.
The devil tries to push his junk down our throats. It will be gone one day. Invest every day in Jesus. When the heat is on, it will not melt away. Brother helps brother. Sister helps sister. Brothers and sisters help each other. It makes me want to do better about my building. When the devil tries to give you a load of hay, tell him to keep it. Remember one day we’ll walk on streets of gold. The walls of the city will be jasper; the gates will be pearl.
Nothing is more precious than Jesus. We got a fresh helping of him last week. He’ll help us endure whatever heat may be coming in our lives.
