Some things we don’t know or understand about Melchizedek. We do know he was the king of Salem, the ancient city of Jerusalem. Abraham encountered him. He was king and high priest appointed by God. I’m glad we have a high priest in Jesus Christ. He’s our Savior. I’ve heard that term given to many things and people in the past few years. Even our President was labeled savior after first coming to office. Mohammad is savior to some. The day is coming to stand before God and no matter the title stuck here; it won’t be like we think. Jesus is not high priest after the order of man as in the Levites or Moses. He is of God after the order of Melchizedek.
Psalms 110: The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. 2 The Lord shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. 3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. 4 The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. 5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath. 6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries. 7 He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.
Abraham was weary and tired after battle. Headed toward the city of Salem, Melchizedek looked out and saw him. He stood in the way because God appointed him. Jesus stands today because God established it. God is the one who rules and reigns, not Satan. Wicked groups have risen seeking their rights all the while Christians are put down. Right now in Bristol parents are protesting because Islam is being taught to their children. You wouldn’t hear about Jesus being taught. We’re on the eve of the anniversary of 9-11. Do people remember? No. For a few weeks after that happened people were aware of God but in no time they went back about their business and their wickedness. We are a Satan and sin-friendly world now.
Melchizedek was appointed king. Jesus is King, appointed as prophet through the Word of Truth forever settled in heaven. It’s not the word of other would-be saviors that matter. It’s the Word of our Bible. It’s the only book of truth recognized in heaven. It fried me like an egg in a skillet and it wasn’t over easy. It’s time to get into the frying pan and let the Lord work. I’d rather be fried now and saved than to fry later in the lake of fire. Jesus is Savior and through his atonement we are saved. He arose from the dead with victory over death and life. He’s the high priest ministering to the living. By his death he saved and by his life he’ll get us through. All the statues of Buddha or Mohammad won’t help. They may have lived years ago but their bones are in a grave somewhere. The tomb of Jesus is empty. The world sees Christianity as chaotic but is straightened me out soul and mind. My eternity is straightened out.
Abraham was tired, weary from the battle. Melchizedek knew he needed food and drink. If Abraham had gone home a different way he would have missed out. Stay near the city of God and the house of God. Give honor to whom honor is due. Nobody will push him off his throne. He’ll reign forever. Draw near to the king of Salem and he’ll meet you. Melchizedek was high priest but came to help. God provided in giving his son to provide atonement and redemption. Melchizedek supplied something for Abraham and then blessed him. I’ve never been blessed by the devil. I’ve been lied to and cheated by him but not blessed. Promises turned into misery. What the Lord gives really blesses. I’ll take a blessing from God any day over a promise of the devil. Right before Jesus left he led everyone out to Bethany and blessed the people. He raised his hands and continues to bless us with them.
Melchizedek didn’t need anything but he received what Abraham gave him. What can we give God? The order of blessing instead of lying is ours through him. By order of Melchizedek the less was blessed of the better and the better was willing to receive from the lesser. Abraham gave 1/10th of what he had to Melchizedek. Jesus Christ deserves what belongs to him. Is he on the low end of receiving from us? He doesn’t want leftovers. Are we really giving the Lord our service and fully and completely trusting him? Melchizedek deserved what Abraham gave him. Jesus does too. We need a desire to be of the order after Melchizedek. This same high priest will soon shake the nations.
