I Timothy 6:1Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.
Chapters 5 and 6 give us daily, real-world situations on how we practice Christianity. We must be a Christian in the work place. I’m sure you’ve worked with people who claim to be a Christian on Sunday but curse and carry on awful at work, acting worse than some lost people. That’s what makes or breaks the witness of a Christian and brings flack our way. When we really do our best and are mistreated, it may very well be because of how someone else who claimed to be a Christian acted at one time.
You have a job to do with a supervisor over you. Christians can be tried in various ways. How you’re treated can be dependent on how your boss treats you. Sometimes you have to take a lot. It seems other religions get respect while Christianity does not. Even Middle Eastern religions get respect while Christians are a target. Whether you have a good or bad work place situation, remember you have another Master there—Jesus Christ. He’s with us always even on the job. When the supervisors of this world make it hard on you as Christians just stay true to the Lord and respond how the Lord would have you respond. When you obey God he’ll help you do the right thing. Even if demoted or dishonored don’t dishonor God. Thank God you are counted worthy to suffer. Christians in other countries are suffering tremendously. It could be worse on us. Let’s take it with the Lord’s help. If you have a supervisor who is a believer remember he has a job to do too. If he or she is trying to do right, pray for them. They have pressure on them as well.
We have to be out there. We have to fight a good fight. We have to maintain dignity and honor. We have to maintain a good reputation as a Christian. Otherwise we are a reproach to God and hinder the gospel. If we show others the right way, when times get rough or they need advice, we’ll be the first ones they come to. I’ve seen that time after time. Whatever the work place situation is, I’m glad our Master is in the work place.
