Psalms 87: 1His foundation is in the holy mountains.2 The Lord loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.3 Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.4 I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there.5 And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her.6 The Lord shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah.7 As well the singers as the players on instruments shall be there: all my springs are in thee. Psalms 84: 4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.
The people of God will still be in the house of the Lord. The reason I know I can still be a child of God in the future is the God I serve is still here. God is God and will be God in the future. Jesus will still be Savior. There is a myth going around that the church is outdated; it’s not needed and is going down. People don’t desire God as they once did so Christianity is a dying religion. People will contort themselves in all sorts of ways to a false religion and at the same time say they don’t need God. God’s Word declares the truth is quite the contrary. There has never been a time that the house of God was not needed. No matter how we feel about it, the house of God will be here. It was here long before us and will be long after us. It will be needed until the trumpet sounds.
God is here and we can safely be here. Church is needed now more than ever. God won’t cease to exist. Many think he’s not real and never has been. Some think he has ceased to exist. It’s very evident that Satan is real but is much more evident that God is real. Regardless of what man says or what governments say God is still God and will remain long after everything else.
God is still here. Everything about him is still the same. What about you? Don’t say church is not like it used to be. That’s the devil talking to you. God hasn’t changed. Heaven is still there. God is still on his throne. Jesus Christ is still the Son of God and saves people from sins. It’s still true that if we draw nigh to God he’ll draw nigh to us. The Bible is still the truth of God. It remains and always will. It rules as far as truth is concerned. You can trust it. When you look at the world through scripture you see things as they are. If we’ll look at ourselves through scripture we’ll see ourselves as we really are.
The church is still God’s house. Long after the monuments of man are gone God’s house will be. The altar is still the place to pray and meet God. It’s a place to get saved and rededicate ourselves when needed. God set the foundation in his house. I have a place at the altar. The first time I was born it was in a hospital in Saltville. The second time I was born was at the altar in the house of God.
Prayer is still heard by God. It has not lost its power. Those who pray may have lost their power, but prayer still works. Studying the Word still feeds the soul. People grab self-help books quickly off the shelf, but the Word is what feeds us. It points us to God and gives us the right way every day. It will get us home.
Hell is still real. There is still fire there. Hell is still at the end of a godless life. The mansions in heaven are still ready to receive the saved. The rapture is just a moment away. The devil can’t stop it. The anti-Christ can’t stop it. Society and governments can’t stop it. At the time appointed nothing will stop Jesus from returning. He’s still coming. Let’s keep waiting and still be found in his house.
We’re still here. God is still here. Jesus is still here. If something happens to any one of us, the church will still be here. We won’t take it to the grave with us. God’s church will be here forever. This is our assurance. It’s the knowledge in our hearts. If everything we know becomes unsure, be assured the house of God will still be here. God will still be God. We can still be who we are in him.
God’s not going anywhere. His house isn’t going anywhere. Let’s make it our intention that we’ll stick with the house of God. If God sticks around, so should we.
