Beware the Other

II Corinthians 11:But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Paul concludes this second letter to the church at Corinth and reminds the people how slick and deceiving the devil is.  To understand the Savior, stick with the gospel of the Bible and the Spirit of God not the spirit of the world.

It’s a time of great wickedness and danger, a time of counterfeit Christianity.  It sounds almost identical to the truth.  The devil presents a Jesus that almost goes with the Bible, a gospel that is almost like the gospel of the Bible.  It must be the gospel of the Bible or it is not gospel; it’s not right.  Our Savior must be the Savior of the Bible, the one made possible by the shedding of the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.  We can’t detect this by our own spirit.  Satan’s most successful tool is deception.  When he appears like a Christian, he is successful in his deceit.  He believes there is a Jesus, but he’s not a Christian and never will be.  He’s an angel, but he’s a fallen one.  He has a gospel, but it’s a fallen gospel.  He promotes a false Christianity.  He’s at his best when he appears most harmless.  He’ll do whatever it takes and put on whatever face he needs to in order to take people to hell.

Be attentive to your soul.  Examine yourself.  We still need to check ourselves to make sure we’re following the right way.  Instead of telling the Lord we’re doing the best we can, let’s ask him if we’re doing what he’d have us do.  God’s unlimited grace and mercy—the straight and narrow way—is the only way.  If another Jesus is presented we can’t receive him.  There are not five or six Spirits.  There is one Holy Spirit.  There is one gospel.  It was enough to save us and is enough to take us home to heaven.  Jesus is the only one who can do it.  We need to hold onto him.

Don’t let the world get to you.  Stick with Jesus.  Pay no attention to the devil.  Don’t give him space.  If you give him an inch, he’ll take a mile.  Beware the other.  Trust Jesus with all your heart.  We can overcome.  One day we’ll see him face to face.
