I John 5: 4For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
Verse 7: there are three. Verse 8: there are three. This passage has some things hard to grasp but what a blessing is revealed by John. We can believe and trust what the Bible says. We can trust who we’re trusting! We can know him. It’s a solid knowledge. I know my redeemer lives and you can too. Because of these statements, we have someone real and alive. As we trust in him we find the real thing. We can continue in the faith because of these three in heaven and in earth. Whatever is thrown at us, we can overcome. Verse 19 says we know that we are of God. It’s like being blind all your life and then being able to see. I’m so thankful for the vision God gives. We see dangers that face us every day because of the light of God in our heart and soul. We have these three to bear witness for us. It is now and shall ever be. They will not change regardless of society changes or changes in life’s situations: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost.
Verse 7 assures us there is a heaven when it says these three bear record in heaven. What we comprehend in this body about heaven is but a glimpse. As sure as we’re alive, heaven is there. The Father—God Almighty—the same who appeared to Abraham and made him the father of many and by whom all the nations of the earth are blessed, is our Father. Fathers have a special place in our lives, but God is a perfect Father. He takes care of everything. The animal world does as he says. He directs the winds and weather. He’s Father to the universe and keeps the planets and stars doing what they do. Even when Adam and Eve failed and were driven from the Garden, God took care of things. He wanted to walk again with man in a more perfect place in heaven. His aim is to be Father to all. When a person accepts Jesus as Savior, God becomes his or her Father.
With him is the Son, here called the Word. When Jesus came to earth the eternal Son from everlasting to everlasting came. God was in the flesh. Man could not redeem himself. It took the Word. We receive the adoption through the reincarnation of the Word. His presence was the visible Word of God. Today he’s in heaven and is still the Word. There is no salvation apart from him. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved. Regardless of the mark of Satan, God and Jesus left a mark on this world through the death, burial and resurrection of the Word. We can look to heaven with our hearts and connect to God and Jesus. I know salvation works because the Savior is in heaven at the right hand of God.
The Holy Ghost is the universal presence of God. In the Old Testament Solomon said heaven and earth couldn’t contain him. Through him God is everywhere. How is it possible? These three are one. It’s hard to grasp that, but when we have God, we have all three. We know God resides in heaven and nothing can overtake him. The Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost are in heaven. They agree and nothing can change the record they bear. We can have confidence today and tomorrow in him as we have had in the past. I thank God for the fellowship in heaven with God through Jesus Christ. If we’re saved our name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. These are the resources given to us. We’re not isolated, lonely believers trying our best to live for an invisible God. The plan of salvation is tailored in such a way that the hard part has been done by those in heaven. We on earth believe them, the easy part.
The Spirit, the water, and the blood bear record in earth. This is same Holy Ghost that’s in heaven. As believers we have a new birth represented by the water. Old things are passed away and need to be buried. Sometimes people try to hang on to the old life, but they need to move on. How can we make it? The same way Moses did—the presence of God. John used the book in our hands—the Word of God. It can be taken out of our hands but if we hide it in our hearts it can never be taken away. If I want God to stay in my life he will. No one else can do a thing about it. Jesus said he’d go with us to the end of the world. The shed blood of Jesus Christ is still here. It’s available and still has power to save. The Spirit, the water, and the blood agree as one.
Do we agree with them? Is our relationship with God as it should be? Are you under the blood? Three in heaven and three in earth. We have this. It is real. It’s why we can make it. If you don’t know Jesus as Savior and God as Father, you can today. Believe the Word. Believe the blood. Yield to the Lord for a connection to heaven. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. (Verse 20)
