Surely God Is In Thee

Isaiah 45: 14 Thus saith the Lord, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God. 15 Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.

A tremendous statement is made here.  It speaks of people in areas that historically rejected the God of the Bible saying a time will come when they will go to the people of God and say surely God is in thee.  It would take a lot for them to say something like this.  One of the challenges we have is to convince people of our testimony especially being what many call old-fashioned, fundamental, Bible-believing Christians.

People have given into the pressure of Satan and departed from the faith.  They have been convinced by the devil that the Bible is not good, church is not good, and Christianity was a fairy tale all along.  We’re in an age that has outgrown Jesus except to use his name and the name of God as curse words.  The evil spirits that motivate the hearts of people laugh as they take the name of God in vain all the while claiming he doesn’t exist.  The Bible tells us that the demons believe and tremble.

People from these dark kingdoms see God in the people.  Is our light of salvation still so powerful to draw others to the Lord?  Yes, it is!  We may feel it barely illuminates and is flickering, but it’s not a turned-down light that is the problem.  Our vision is dim.  When Jesus lives in a heart, he’s not there as a flicker.  He is a bright, shining light.  Regardless of how dark it is around us, we are still the lights by which Jesus shines.  He is the light in us.  The truth of God powers it.  Behind the sarcastic remarks, souls are begging us to say something about Jesus that will help them.

We’re to be a witness to this generation.  We’re to shine the gospel and let people know they can be saved.  Before we can have a testimony, we must be a witness to what happened.  We had a personal touch of the Master’s hand when we got saved.  We have witnessed what he did for us.  We began a new life.  He’s been a good shepherd to us feeding us what we need.  These are things that I know to be true.  When our faith gets dim, he shines more.  He’s so obvious that we have to say we’re sorry for doubting.  We can’t help but experience the Lord.  When we get out of line, we experience his chastisement.  When we need help, we experience his lift.  God is so good to his children.  It’s what we know!  He’s given us a voice to use words to speak about what he’s done.  It we talked about the Lord all day long, we’d never run out of things to say.  We are to be ready to give an answer to those who don’t know the Lord.  Our command is to go, but we don’t have to go far before we run into someone who needs to hear about the Lord.  It’s almost like he sends them to us.  We ought to talk about Jesus more.  Be the kind of person in heart and tongue that people can say surely God is in thee.

In verse 19 he declared these things are right.  We’re established in it.  We have been shown what is right.  The righteousness of God has been put within us.  It’s not just a matter of living right.  We constantly find how imperfect we are.  Be conscious of every action.  Is it pleasing to the Lord?  Our life is a testimony of being right not just doing right.  We live right because we are right.  If we’re right with the Lord, we’ll live right.  People will see it.  We cannot be a talking Christian; our testimony must be in our heart.  People will size us up.  The testimony of our being will convince them that surely God is in us.

Can others say that about you?  They may not like you because of it, but you can tell whether they believe you are a Christian.  Their best chance of getting saved is that the Lord affects our lives in such a way that people look at us and see God.  This brings a confidence.  Unlikely people will come to you about the Lord.  When they do, what they are saying is “I see the Lord in you.”

Be conscious every day of the fact that we live in the midst of a sinful generation that is searching for something.  We’re the evidence.  They can come to us because they know God is in us.  Be such a Christian; others need your help.  If we can accomplish that, we will have done the will of God.
