Isaiah 50:2 Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst. 49:26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.
Strong statements were made here by the Lord. They are timely for us here and now as well. The Lord asked good questions in verse 2. He called attention to his ability. He said “I’m here. Where is everyone else?” It’s the very thing we do. We ask “where is God?” That’s not the question. When he came, there was none to answer. He’s not forsaken the world or his people. He is as present as he’s always been. He’s all present, all knowing. He’s infinite and unchangeable. How can we ask for more than that? Maybe the reason we think he’s not around is because we don’t listen; we don’t see him.
There is still plenty of God in the world just from the mere fact of who he is—thy Savior, the mighty one. He’s still the same today as when Isaiah wrote this down. Consider the threats on every hand. Each day, a new page of events happen that can scare us to death. We are living in uncertain times, the times that have been prophesied. What helps us is to hear about something that is sure and secure. In our secular life, our securities are not secure. We all share the same apprehensions regarding life as we know it.
We can trust in something that will continue. When God speaks, it’s not doubletalk. There is certainty and continuity. All that affects our daily life doesn’t have an effect on the Lord. He is the same. Those that trust him will continue. All flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One.
He asked is my hand shortened. Have I no power to deliver? God still controls and makes things happen. He said at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness. He still controls his creation. The length of his arms is the same. The strength of his hands is as it ever was. Trust in the Lord and don’t fear what life or the devil may do.
All flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Savior. “Thy” means yours. It’s personal. He’s the Savior for all who believe, but he’s our personal Savior. In fact, “Savior” has a capital S. His name is Savior. His name means Savior. The angel said his name would be Jesus because he would save his people from their sins. We can’t save ourselves. When it comes to our soul and eternity, a plan was set before the foundation of the world. Jesus came down to be the Savior, and he continuously does so today. The world is a mess, but we can be assured of safety because He is our Savior. When nothing else works, Jesus does. He saves to the uttermost. The world may turn us upside down, but the Savior keeps us right side up.
We needed a Savior when we were lost, but he’s still our Savior. We’re still a work in progress. He trims us up to keep us on the right path. He didn’t save us and leave us on our own. He works with us as a father does his children. Many trust an “it”—religion, a belief system or ritual. The Bible doesn’t call our Savior an “it.” He said I AM THE SAVIOR, a real living someone. God is more than a belief or observance. He is a person, the triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus said I am he that liveth and was dead and am alive forevermore.
He wants to be personal with us. Did he come to redeem us? Yes. Will he take care of us? Yes. Will he comfort us? Yes. Give us security? Yes. Give us peace? Yes. I can’t promise this, but God can. He can because he is Savior. He is Lord of everyone and everything. Every knee will bow; even those who don’t confess him now will bow one day. We can take care of very little in life. We need someone to take care of us. The good news is we have someone. Jesus said I am he. Trust in your Savior to knock the enemies of life down.
What do you need? Because of who he is, he has provided an acceptable time for you. II Corinthians says now is the accepted time. Today is the appointed day for your total help. He is thy Savior.
