Our Subduing Lord

Philippians 3: 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Paul closes this chapter with anticipation, a wonderful reminder that regardless of how life is.   As Christians we belong to the Lord himself. He is able to subdue all things. His kingdom is heavenly; it’s perfect. He is also able to change us. That means he will give us a glorified body like his. In doing so, he will give us total and complete victory forever. We are reminded that true victory, the ability to overcome all the adverse experiences in each day, lies not in our own feeble resources and intellect, but rather in our continual trust in Jesus for his intervention and working. Because he has overcome the world, he has promised us that we will too, by simple, committed trust. He who will one day change us physically into a perfect form, will also change the outcome of our daily struggles. And it is through the same power- the power of his resurrection. Because he is forever Total Lord, all who follow him by faith will enjoy an actual subduing of any and all that confronts us in our life-path. Though the forces of darkness can intimidate us and frighten us, nothing can stand in his way. In this uncertain time, we discover fresh peace and strength…and hope.

Do not allow our human nature to quench victory that is ours. We can have it if we trust in the Lord, believing his word. No power of man or earth can overcome the power of God. We are his. We belong there. He will not fail us. Let us not fail him.
