Communing With The King

The Lord instituted the church not a commune as some religions do.  These are a counterfeit when inner peace is taught to be attainable by communing with oneself.  Here we have something priceless.  Many times prayer is used as the place to take requests and then move on.  We find the most peace when we unload our heart completely.  It’s not just about a little talk.  We vent and talk more to each other than we do the Lord. Do you think it won’t do any good to talk to the Lord?  It’s quite the contrary.

The Queen of Sheba visited Solomon, and we see a demonstration of the wonderful privilege we have to commune with our Savior.  Our best friend is Jesus, and he is often not consulted or approached.  At times he’s the one we seem not to want to open up to completely.  We should.  Before we go to anybody else, we should talk to the Lord.  He’s the easiest person in the world to talk with.  The queen told Solomon everything in her heart.  Is it really possible to see exactly where someone else is coming from?  Friends can come close, but no one sees and knows us like Jesus.  David said we should pour out our heart before the Lord.

I Kings 10: 1And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with hard questions.  2And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart. 3And Solomon told her all her questions: there was not anything hid from the king, which he told her not.

This is you and Jesus and your opportunity with him.  When the queen heard of Solomon’s fame, she came to prove him.  It wasn’t to test him due to doubt but to receive of his wisdom.  She needed answers she could get nowhere else.  She came to experience the proof of his wisdom by communing with him.  She came personally and confidentially.  She put her confidence in him, let go, and told him all that was in her heart.

We might have hard questions that bog us down.  There are things we can’t figure out.  Others may try their best to help but can’t.  Come to Jesus with all your heart and commune with him.  You will find the answers.  When the queen told all that was in her heart, the king answered correctly.  She received the right and proper answer.  When she came honest and held nothing back, Solomon gave her the answer she needed.  She could go home satisfied.  What a sign of our privilege to commune with Jesus!  Communing is a sharing of heart, a complete exchange of information.  Jesus wants us to empty every room in our heart and let him in.

None was greater than King Solomon.  As rich as the Queen of Sheba was, she brought everything she could to him.  We have to do that.  We need to bring “our stuff” to THE King.  There is a better friend than your best friend or closest family member.  We don’t know each other inside out, but Jesus does.  He knows all about our bodies, our character, our spiritual life, our past, our present, and all our circumstances.  He knows better than we know ourselves.  Knowing it all, he still invites us to come to him.

Solomon had a peaceful reign.  All the surrounding kings knew Solomon’s was a welcome throne.  People knew they could go to him.  How laden are your camels?  You have a Savior waiting to talk.  Are you willing to trust Jesus with all your heart and open up to him like the queen did Solomon?  The King is the one with the answers.  We need access to him, and we have it.  When we trust the Lord, things fall into place. The queen was a different person. Her burden was lifted.  He told her everything when she told him everything.  There is no use to talk to anybody if you feel Jesus can’t help you.  If he can’t help, then it can’t be fixed.

“What a fellowship.  What a joy divine leaning on the everlasting arms.”  Whose arms are you leaning on?  It’s all right to talk to each other, but it’s very important to unload with Jesus.  You have his permission.  He’s holding out the scepter, and you’re free to speak and speak freely.  If you open up and commune with Jesus, you will hear from him.  He’s just busting at the seams to help.

How far are you willing to go?  That’s what communing is about—coming to him, consulting him, confiding in him, listening to him, and waiting on his answer. When we take it to the Lord, we’re able to leave satisfied just like the queen did.  That’s a real relationship with the Lord.  That’s what communing with him is all about.
