There is an event that will take place after we get to heaven. It’s called the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. It’s important to note there are two voices here. One is the voice of the people of God who made it to heaven. The other is the voice of the Lord. In any wedding, two voices have to speak other than the officiating person—the bride and groom. Both speak here. The voice of God’s people was so loud it was like thunder. John saw this crowd. If you’re saved, you’ll be in it. Jesus told John to write it down.
Revelation 19: 1And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: 2For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. 3And again they said, Alleluia And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. 4And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. 5And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. 6And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. 7Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. 9And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
I know you’ve thought about the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. We’ve all entertained thoughts about it. In our mind most of us probably see a big table with Jesus at the head. Jesus is a one-on-one Savior. I don’t know how, but somehow we’ll be close to him. He’s 100% Savior to each of us individually. I can’t be that to you all, but God can. That’s why he’s God, and that’s why Jesus is Jesus. In the heavenly realm things will be different. It won’t be like what we have here. There will be different physics. Physics as we know it was set at creation, but there will be a new heaven and earth to come. We’ll have a new body. Knowing it will be a different realm of things, don’t worry about the details of how it’s going to work. Worry about getting there.
Jesus took John to the future. The saved of all generations will meet the Lord. Our eternal union is a marriage celebration. Why would God use an earthly custom? He’s not. Marriage is a heavenly institution set in place when God created Eve and presented her to Adam. The beginning and ending have a wedding. John was overwhelmed. Jesus said “write” because what he saw and what he was told was true and faithful.
The value of this scripture is high. Think about what this life would be like if there were uncertainties about heaven. This lets us know the time will come, and we’ll be part of it. We’ll meet the Lord. We first have to meet him here at an altar of prayer and be saved. We have our daily relationship with him. The supper will be the official union of the church with Jesus. The days in which we live are tough. It’s more and more difficult to remain faithful in worship and living. This is the incentive to keep serving the Lord.
The Marriage Supper is for the Lamb, but it’s for the bride too. It’s for us! I’m not worthy, and I’m sure you feel the same about yourself. It seems too good to be true. Consider it a privilege to be saved. That’s how we get there. We’re betrothed to Jesus now. He’s known as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. In the book of Revelation, he’s known in heaven as the Lamb of God. John the Baptist introduced him as “the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.” He was the Lamb slain for our sins. He’s our only hope of salvation. When he wore the crown of thorns, he was the Lamb of God who bore our sins. He’ll always be Savior even after this earthly realm is over. We’ll never get over being the saved. The hosts of heaven know that; they don’t know what it’s like to be saved. We’ll always have that relationship with Jesus—the Savior and the saved. He’ll forever be the Lamb who died for his bride.
Consider the contrast between the bride and groom. I’ve seen homely men married to beautiful women and vice-versa. The Bible says Jesus is glorious, fairer than any. He’s the Lily of the Valley and the Rose of Sharon. He took us just like we are. He loved us in our sins and saved us. He wants to be our Savior. That’s why he died. If you never see him as your Savior, you’ll never see him as your groom.
Verse 7 says the bride made herself ready. Have you made yourself ready? I’m not talking about what you profess on the outside. It’s about accepting him into your heart. If you won’t accept him now as the Lamb who took your sins and died for them, you won’t be united with him as his bride and be present at this wedding. Before you can walk down the aisle as a bride of Christ, you must walk down the aisle of repentance.
Are you ready?
