The message was brought by Bro. Jack Sprinkle on Monday night.
I Samuel 17:45 “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied . 46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.”
So many people feel they can’t do anything. They’re afraid to teach or lead a prayer meeting. If you can get this thought in your mind, it will solve the problem. It’s not about your intelligence or experience. It’s about willingness to do what God wants.
David is a lot like the little girl who was disciplined by her mom. She made her sit down. In a few minutes the girl told her mom she may be sitting down on the outside, but she was standing up on the inside. David had a problem, but he didn’t let it get him down. It doesn’t matter how little you have to offer. Give it. God will use it.
At the age of 17 David was already called a man of war. As a young kid, probably 10 or 11 years old, he fought a lion to save a lamb. A little later a bear came after the sheep, and he killed it just like he did the lion. He was little outside but big inside. If we give what we have, no matter how small, God will take it. David was being trained by God for a bigger job. God saw his willingness.
He was the youngest of eight sons and too young to go to war. The three oldest brothers went, and David was sent to check on them. The army of Israel had run from the Philistines when they saw the giant. The entire army was afraid. Even King Saul, head and shoulders above all other men in Israel, didn’t go fight. Why wasn’t David afraid? He was willing.
David was sent to Saul. He refused to wear armor. Don’t try to fight with someone else’s armor. Fight with what God gave you. David picked up five stones on the way. Goliath said he would feed David to the fowls. David said he would feed the carcasses—plural—to them. He was ready to kill the entire Philistine army. He ran toward the giant. He knew the battle was the Lord’s. He hit the only spot available to make a fatal wound, right above his eyes. He fell forward not backward. David was the winner because he knew how to serve God.
When you allow God to direct you, you will be a winner. God will use you as quickly as he did David. David was a small man. He met a giant 9 ½ feet tall. A little stone was deadly to a big giant. We might not be much, but with God we are gigantic.
Are you willing to be the little boy who uses what you have for God? It may be little, but allow God to be God and use it.
