A Revival Needs A Mother

The message was brought Sunday night by Bro. Jack Sprinkle.

I want to liken revival to a mother.  Every revival needs one.  The dictionary says a mother is the source of anything.  Mothers bring forth babies.  Revivals have to be brought forth.  They don’t come often because many times we’re not willing to pay the price and suffer the birth pains. If we have revival this week, we’ll have to be the mother of it.

Proverbs 31: 10Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.   28Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. 29Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

A mother is a priceless person.  Money can’t buy one.  Mothers make themselves mothers. Revivals are not born of themselves.  There won’t be one until a person gets to the place of wanting one.  I don’t have it. God does.  It won’t be thrown at us each night. We must bear the price and endure the pain.  You can’t buy moms or revivals. You can’t be good enough for one, but you can be humble enough to receive it.

A mother can be trusted.  We can trust the Lord.  There is no way he’ll withhold a revival if we want it.  It makes character. It changes lives. It makes a Christian a better Christian. It saves families, churches, communities, countries; it can save the world.  Why isn’t it happening?  God doesn’t want anyone to perish. Lack of revival is not his fault. Do you want it?

Mothers are ambitious.  Revivals are too.  They turn things around and make them look different.  One will push you out into the highways and hedges.  It lets you see into eternity with a new foresight.  Moms work willingly, and if a revival works, it works willingly.  It costs some time.  Some may certainly be hindered, but are you?  Do you want it?

A mother isn’t lazy.  She gives all.  Just as she hears the cry of her baby, a revival hears the cry of a community.  A church in revival is not lazy.  It gives its all.

A mother sacrifices.  She provides for her children, and a revival provides for those it is responsible for.  It won’t allow a community to go to hell.  Are you willing to do without for revival?  God is able.

Mothers look ahead.  A revival looks ahead at tomorrow’s needs right into eternity.  It’s a serious thing, and we’re responsible. It will only happen through our dedication to the Lord.  It’s not up to me. It’s not up to Bob.  It’s up to each one.

Mothers are fearless.  They’re not afraid to care for a child who is sick.  We need to come to the point that we can help anyone who will allow us to help.  Adopt the idea “Lord, send me.”

A mother has rewards.  If your mother is alive, get to her today.  The time will come when you wish you could.  You need revival now because the time will come when you’ll wish you had.  Verse 28 says “her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” A mother will be remembered.  A revival will be as well.  It can live as long as you do.  Don’t forget the influence of this church over you.  Don’t forget the influence of even this service.

Will you be the mother, the source, of this revival?  Will you make the sacrifices?  Will you give the time?  Will you pray?  A revival will make us all what we should be.

It’s been said that the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.  The church that rocks the cradle saves the lost.
