Psalm 17:15 “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.”
This is the conclusion of a prayer of David, and it ends with a statement of assurance. Regardless of what others thought, he decided that as for him he would be satisfied. He was not only talking about the ending of life but his every waking moment. His assurance rested in the fact that he was in God. Because of that he said “I shall be satisfied.”
It’s a statement we’d all like to make. Many waste life on obtaining, accomplishing, and gaining all in an effort to find satisfaction. Mistakenly, some people think therein lies happiness. The fact is that it doesn’t matter how much or what kind of material and physical things we have. They only bring satisfaction to a certain degree. There is no replacement for having the Lord in your heart and life.
David’s discovery of satisfaction was simple. He didn’t lean on himself. He turned his paths in the Lord’s direction and found deep, heart-felt, and realistic satisfaction. The Lord makes any day a good day. He makes circumstances bearable. A challenge or struggle is tolerable. Our life is made up of waking moments. We face each one not knowing what it will bring. For a child of God, this verse means everything. Why? We know somebody will be there. The Lord has been there every time. He is a never-failing presence. Whatever we wake to, we will be satisfied. We can go to sleep in peace when our hearts trust in the Lord. We sleep with the promise that no matter what, Jesus is there. We’ll be able to make it.
Can you say it? “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.”
Lord, grant me the ability to take each day and see your likeness. Take a moment to recognize him first thing each morning and last thing each night. One day we will awake in eternity forever satisfied in him.
