He That Believeth On Me

Never underestimate the word of God. It teaches afresh each time. Don’t overlook the thoughts in this scripture.  It seems simple; it’s a common phrase, but stop and think about it.

John 6:35 “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. 40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. 47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”

Do you see the pattern?  Jesus used this phrase many times. When he said “he that believeth on me,” a wonderful statement was made.  Not only is it for our different experiences and battles and our physical and spiritual conditions to come, it’s for now.  This should mean everything. “What if” is possible.

Everybody believes in something. Even an atheist believes in what he believes. It is not enough to say I have belief in God or I’m of the Baptist or Methodist faith. That’s not a hill of beans to the Lord.  It’s not a creed, philosophy, or a religion. You can believe in anything, but if there is not a personal belief in God, you don’t have it.  Jesus said “he that believeth on me.” The object of the faith must be there, and it must be real. Believing in the Bible and church without believing in God means you’re still lost.  Until we believe him personally we have nothing.

He that believeth” means believe as you go along.  Jesus is there just as he said. As we trust, we have. It’s a simple workable formula for what the soul seeks for—rightness of life. When Jesus said “I am the bread of life,” he meant he is just that.  When he said “I am the good shepherd,” he meant he is just that.  When he said “I am the true vine,” he meant it.  When he said “I am the door,” he meant he’s the door.  All this is a crucial factor to make the entire plan of salvation work and security of the soul possible.  I’m thankful there is someone to trust in—Jesus!  “I AM” plus “he that believeth on me” equals “hath.” Jesus, plus you and your belief in him, equals having. When he said “he that believeth on me shall never thirst,” we won’t. When he said “he that believeth on me hath everlasting life,” we do.  Whatever we need, Jesus says “I AM.”  A great big God said the faith of little old you and me equals having what he has. He is Alpha and Omega; he’s from A to Z and all in between.  He is the unshakable one. Jesus never fails. When you trust Jesus, you have.  We may have trust in this church and in others, but when our belief is not centralized on Jesus we lose ground.  When we trust, we always have. We’ll have things later, but we have things now.  There is nothing Jesus cannot do or be for us.

I AM.”  When he said “HE that believeth” he meant any and every individual. It’s all for me, and it’s all for you. When we act on our belief, it reaches the GREAT I AM. The question is not who or what Jesus is.  It’s about our willingness to lay aside our ignorance and believe our Lord.  If and when we do WE HAVE.
