In A Dry and Thirsty Land

This is good guidance for revival.  Is it true that thirst can be quenched where there is no water?  Absolutely!  The same is true for us today and this week.  Revival is possible IF we thirst for God.

Psalm 63:1 “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.”

It doesn’t matter how waterless the world is, there is water at a well which has always been.  As we thirst, no matter what the thirst is, there is quenching. The life we live is hard.  It seems unlikely in these times to have revival. It’s unlikely circumstantially. Things are worse spiritually and morally than ever.  The Bible says things will wax worse.  Revival will be hard in this Godless world.  It is seemingly devoid of the working of God.  That is the very reason it is the best time for reviving and finding the Lord.

The hotter and drier a place is, the greater thirst one has. In comfortable circumstances, one may be all right and take his time to get to water.  However, if it’s hot and you’re sweating, you quickly get thirsty. The environment will make you search for something, somewhere and some way to quench the thirst. If you can’t find water, you’ll get pop.  If it’s the kind of pop you don’t like, you’ll drink it if you’re thirsty enough.

From one aspect, this land is so dry and thirsty that it’s hard to see God. We listen to the world.  It gets hard to find the water because of the heat of the devil. The Lord seems scarce; the water seems so far away.  Do you think revival can’t happen?  Is there no water there?

David found himself there. His soul thirsted and nothing could quench it but the Lord. The devil has a storefront of counterfeit drinks to satisfy the soul.  The more one drinks pop, the more thirst there is.  Water quenches thirst. It satisfies our natural craving. Every soul needs more water from the Lord.  In John 7 Jesus said If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” The water is there. The well is not gone. It’s not dried up. Search for the Water of Life. Jesus is still what he’s always been. Let the thirst of your soul drive you to him.

It doesn’t matter what other alternatives you’re presented with, God is still God.  When he’s put on the throne of your heart and life, the thirst will be quenched.  David said “early will I seek thee.” Don’t wait while you try other things. Try Jesus the first thing. The attainment of your revival begins with a desire. How strong is your thirst? God offers revival, the very thing to satisfy every longing. Impossible is made possible.  Even where there is no water, there is God.

Revival has no set of instructions of A, B, C, D… We don’t wait until Friday to see.  It’s not being entertained. We don’t need a tent. We don’t need anything fancy.  All we need is to be thirsty for the Lord.  David was seeking early.  Are you seeking? Are you in a long, precarious situation?  That’s just the way life is sometimes.  If there was any other water, we could go there, but apart from God there is no quenching.

Verse 5 says My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips.” It’s bad to be really thirsty and not be able to find anything.  A burn victim can’t be satisfied no matter how much water he drinks. The thirst of the soul can end even in this impossible land where no water is.

Seek the place; seek the person from whom the water comes.  The Lord will give all that is needed and all we want.  Are you thirsty enough to seek?  The Bible says “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”
