Walter Statzer, a former pastor of our church, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 15.
Our church homecoming was on August 8th. The homecoming brochure spoke of the lives of the pastors of the church. The following was in there about Preacher Statzer. He was such a blessing to all who knew him.
Walter Statzer became our pastor 3/65 and was here until 5/71. While he was here the auditorium was completed. The twins were also born while he and Madge were here. What a time she had out of those boys! All they wanted to do was crawl under the seats while he preached. Several years ago Madge went to be with the Lord. She was a wonderful person and worker for the Lord.
Though not our pastor, Preacher Statzer continued to be a great blessing to the church. He held many singing schools here. He’d come up for a week and teach the choir new songs. If you’ve never heard someone sing the notes instead of the actual words, you’ve missed a treat; he did it “without missing a note.”
Last July he came up so we could host a “Walter Statzer” day. What a blessing that service was. If we could only say one thing about him, it would be he is a humble man and certainly someone we have very fond memories of as our pastor. We can always count on the “hello there” if our paths cross.
He still hates dumplings, something to the tune of “I wouldn’t do that to a biscuit.”
Please pray for his wife Mildred and his sons Luke and Lee and their families. Remember too to pray for Shiloh Church. He was pastor there for 38 years.
