Thy Faith Hath Saved Thee

Bro Popeye Frye brought the message.

Luke 7:50 “And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.”

This is a lengthy part of scripture for this story.  I want to concentrate on verse 50.

A Pharisee named Simon invited Jesus to his house. A woman heard about it and came in. She bowed herself at Jesus’ feet hoping to get the peace and hope that he alone can give. The Pharisees told Jesus if he knew who she was he would stop it. Jesus knows all about us, what we talk and walk—even the hairs on our head are numbered.  Jesus told her that her faith had saved her and to go in peace.  Hebrews 11:6 says “but without faith it is impossible to please him.” This woman of the streets had the same privilege we do.  It’s all happens by faith.

Faith in one another will help a lost person see what it’s all about. When we’re committed to the Lord and then to each other, the lost will see it. No matter what others say, we can stand up and say we’re children of God.  Again, this happens through faith in his word.  We need to commit ourselves to the Lord. It’s all by faith.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says “for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” We can’t find salvation without faith. Jesus made it possible for us to have peace. The ointment the woman put on Jesus’ feet probably cost her a year’s wages. The people wondered why she’d break it for Jesus. They didn’t realize who he was. I didn’t realize how much God loved me even when I made fun of him. When Jesus died, he was looking out for you and me.

The way Paul lived was like this woman of faith. Acts 22 says “and now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship. For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.” Paul didn’t believe because he saw the angel; he saw the angel because he believed.  We cannot get to God without faith. God provides the way for us; we don’t have to be afraid. One time Jesus told the people that if they had faith as a grain of mustard seed they could move mountains. He was referring to the mountains each of us has in our life.  With faith, we have someone who can move them.

The great Chicago fire was four miles long and 250 people died. An evangelist was preaching there that week. Instead of giving an altar call that night he told those without the Lord to go home and think about their soul and come back the next night. Wonder how many may have been in that 250 that died? After that, the evangelist said he would never again close a service without offering an opportunity for the lost to be saved.

How many of you know you’ll be back tonight? You may say it, but you don’t know. An altar is a meeting place with the Lord. Make sure you give your heart to the Lord. Through faith, and only faith, can you have salvation.  “It’s never too early to receive Christ, but at any moment it can be too late.”
