Bro. Roger Clark brought the message.
Luke 19:41 “And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, 42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. 43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, 44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.”
The New Testament mentions three times that Jesus wept. No doubt he wept many more. Hundreds of years before the prophet Isaiah wrote that Jesus would be a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Jesus wept is at the tomb of Lazarus. John 11:35 is the shortest verse in the Bible and simply says “Jesus wept.” When he saw the sorrow and pain of Mary and Martha he was touched. You may be walking through a valley; you may be going through trials and burdens. Remember that Jesus will sympathize with you. Another time that Jesus wept is in the Garden of Gethsemane. He was under great anguish and suffering so much that he sweat great drops of blood. He didn’t weep because was to die; that’s why he came. He wept over the cup of suffering of our sins that he would bear on Calvary. He also wept over the city of Jerusalem. Why did Jesus weep over the city? It was not the massive wall or the great buildings, or even the government. It was nothing physical, yet something in that city broke his heart.
Jesus saw the false religion and was very burdened. He saw only lip service. Their hearts were far away from God. No spirituality was found; they did not believe the Word of God. America is smothered in false religion. Haggai said it was like a bag of holes; it other words it was empty. When there is not a receiving of the Son of God, there is nothing but an empty life. This breaks the heart of Jesus.
Without the leadership of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we have only cold Christianity. There is no power in churches today. Jesus came to help others, but without the Holy Spirit people can’t get the help they need. The average church does not emphasize the birth, death and resurrection of the Lord. It does not honor the gospel. Every church service should give preeminence to the Savior. Not having this causes the Lord to weep.
Jesus wept because of the impending judgment of God. He knew it would come. They pushed away the Messiah. He knows it will come to America. Revelation says that judgment will take peace from the earth. We cannot live without peace. Death and hell are the impending judgment. Those not prepared will be cast into hell.
We don’t want to be like a bag with holes. We don’t want to have cold Christianity. We don’t want to fall into the judgment of God. These cause the Lord to weep.
