Luke 2:20 “And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.”
This is an appropriate scripture for Thanksgiving because the shepherds’ response and reaction to hearing the news and finding the Christ child in a manger was one of thanks and praise. They were the first to meet Jesus. The Messiah was revealed to them. After their visit, they returned to their fields with thanksgiving and praise. They glorified God. When the wise men saw Jesus and presented their gifts, they returned to their own country rejoicing at finding the Messiah. The Christmas story ends with its beginning. Over and over we see them beginning with thanks. Thanksgiving is the beginning of Christmas and at the end of Christmas we give thanks that Jesus was born.
Thanksgiving should be everyday. The first to see Jesus gave him praise and thanksgiving. We should do the same. The Lord is eternal, and it’s our privilege to praise and give him thanks. Thanksgiving should never end. If we were to run out of earthly things to be thankful for, we always have salvation for which we should be eternally grateful.
Christmas is a season that will never end and it begins with an eternal thanksgiving.
