“ Wherefore God hath highly exalted Him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11
My, what a truth before us tonight! Here is a fact that should bless you and turn your life around right here and right now. This is more than just a statement concerning our Lord; it is your hope, your possibility, your life-breath, and your eternity. Wherever you stand right now, you can make it because of Him, because of who He is.
We live in such a complex, overwhelming world at this moment. The unbelievable faces us head on. We find ourselves feeling so helpless, so small, so vulnerable. And indeed we are. In living life these days, we are no match for its many difficulties, conflicts, and sufferings. If we have ever needed someone who is greater, it is now. And there is One. Let’s reacquaint ourselves with Him tonight.
God has exalted Him higher. How tall do we really stand in this life? Just when we feel we are on top of things, these very things rear themselves up, and we find ourselves on the bottom. However, Jesus is higher than the tallest adversary. Higher than the tallest problem. Higher than anything that stands before us. And through our access of faith we can reach Him, and He reaches to us right through them all.
God has given Him a name that is above every other name. Everything we face has a name. Each sin, problem, temptation, affliction, and worry has a name. That very name strikes fear and despair in our hearts. Friends, don’t be intimidated. Remember, His Name is above all those names. His Name rubs out and overwrites itself on that very page of your life story. By committing our way unto Him, He rewrites the page and the story changes for the better. He is the great Editor of our life! Praise Him!
Consider what happens At His name. Every knee bows. Every living creature has knees—insects, animals, and people. These joints are necessary for bending, stooping, and lowering the whole body. So it is with everything you and I deal with in life. Though our adversity may seem impregnable, rigid, and unbending, each one has a knee. Paul details this. Not only does the living part of creation have knees, but all things have knees, whether in the heavens, in the earth, or under the earth. Whatever and wherever. The very thing that faces you right now, regardless of how it may appear, has a knee. And that knee can bow. It may not bow at mine or your name, ability, or effort, but it will bow at the name of Jesus. The scripture is plain to inform us that its knee should bow, regardless of what it may want to do. It can bow, for nothing exists that is greater or stronger than Him. And the wonderful fact is that every thing will bow at His Name, and its very tongue that threatens you shall confess that only Jesus Christ is truly Lord.
Right now, take this passage into your heart. Believe and know this is the way it is. Act upon it. Call upon your Lord. Come before His Name. And as we bow our knee before Him, all that besets us will have to bow down too… and give in to Him.
