All Things In Subjection

This is a Godless society.  Sin seems to dominate the world. It does in one way and in another not. God is in control. Some say that not much is in subjection to God and ask why the devil gets the upper hand. REMEMBER: all things are in subjection to the Lord. If they were not, He would not the Lord.

Hebrews 2:5 For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak. 6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him? 7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: 8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. 9 But we see Jesus….

We are mistaken if we have this notion that God fights the devil constantly. That is not true even if it appears to be so.  God is totally in control of his enemies and ours. He has never expected us to know the why of things; we are to just accept them.

Verse 8 plainly states it.  Things are under his subjection.  It does not fluctuate. It just is.   We can trust Him with it. We trust the bus driver and the airplane pilot to get us to our destination. Why do we not do the same with Jesus?  He doesn’t get the victory today and lose it tomorrow.  God is not a thermometer. Nebuchadnezzar said that God’s dominion is everlasting. Nothing can disturb it. From generation to generation, even our present one, can choose not to trust God. He is still God even if no one believes. He cannot be compared for there is none like him.

We may have control for a moment or two but that’s it at best. If I have $10 in my wallet, I have control over it until the doctor bill comes. It’s then out of my control. All we have is transient. We have the assurance and keeping of God because all things are under his subjection. It’s his will, and we cannot ask him what he is doing. God has his way in the world, the spirit world, and over all godlessness and denial of him. Verse 6 comes from Psalm 8. See how small we are. Who are we that he came to us? God made his Son a little lower than the angels because the distance was too great between God and man. He wanted to raise us up. He set aside his all to be our Savior.

Verse 8 tells us three things. All things are under his subjection. It’s a flat-out statement. If we believe the Bible we have to believe this. All things include all things, not most, not every now and then…ALL things and that never changes. Sometimes it may be hard to see. The devil doesn’t want us to see it.  We see what we perceive to be good and bad. For example, in creation we might see a hurricane as bad. The weather belongs to God. All the powers of darkness and the devil can only move as God allows. Satan has never had the victory over God or his Son. Even at Calvary Jesus said no man was taking his life. Pilate said he had power to do with him what he chose. He had no power except it was given by God.

We must never believe the devil. He says he can get the upper hand.  In the presence of God the demons bow. The devil bows. He doesn’t want you to know that or believe he has to answer to God. The world is chaotic. There is so much sin, but there is no more than there ever was. It’s just advertised now. There have always been murderers. There has always been persecution of Christians. We see nothing today like the early church did. God does not have his hands full trying to keep up with it all.

Jesus is the Son of God. He overcame sin and the devil. We fall for Satan’s lies if we believe otherwise.  We have victory, and if we don’t, it’s not because of God. We don’t have to be defeated. God is the God of yesterday. He’ll be God tomorrow. He is God from everlasting to everlasting. We must equally believe He is the God of today. We’re slaves and victims to time. God doesn’t carry a watch. Time has no limits on him.  Time and eternity are subject to him.

We are subject to God in all ways but one. We are alive by him. Our blessings and assets are ordered under God. Our breath and our time are under his subjection. Our heart has the freedom of choice. God does not force us to be under his subjection. The devil has no choice. Creation and the world system have no choice. The only thing that can refuse to be under God’s subjection is our heart. God wants us to do it, but it is of our own will. Submission is the willful surrender to the subjection of God. It’s our wish. If we say no, God won’t override it.

“But now we see not yet all things put under him.” This is true. We see the troubles, the headlines, our family, and our health. We ask why God doesn’t work it out. Even though we don’t see it, God is working. They are all under his subjection.

Are you part of the not-under-subjection? Have you surrendered and submitted your life to God? To be under subjection means to turn it over to God. He is in charge anyway. The devil cannot force us to sin and serve him. We can choose no. Choose God and all the forces of the Lord are at our call.

We don’t see it all the time, “but we see Jesus.” Whatever you step into Jesus has stepped there too. Look to your side and you’ll see Jesus. Then you’ll know it will be all right. We can face everyday with this. The world, sin, and the devil won’t seem nearly as bad.  When we stand under what we can’t see under God’s subjection, we still see Jesus. If you feel you’re down too far to pray, whisper his name, “Jesus.” He’ll take care of you.

If it seems like it’s not under his subjection, even though it is, remember we can always see Jesus.
