Psalm 62:8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.
This is more than a reading of scripture; it’s an invitation like no other. It’s what we long for, and it’s right before us. Many times we read in a devotional sense and forgo applying it to our personal life. This is an outright invitation we can all identify with. We don’t have to wait on it. We just have to pour out our heart before him. It says God IS a refuge. That’s now.
The heart is vast, more than we can imagine. What goes in the heart defiles it. What is it? Do you have doubts? Are you asking why? Are there burdens or trials? It there trouble at home or work? Do you have hard feelings? Do you have sins or hard feelings tucked away inside? Are you worried and lonely? Are you to the point you don’t want to do anything? Do you put on a smile so no one else will know? God is asking us what is in our hearts. We don’t have to be drug down by it anymore. God says “pour it out.” Don’t be afraid to tell God. He already knows anyway. He’ll provide the release if we just pour it out.
When we don’t let go of things they have a tendency to take hold. We get trapped. We may go to many means for peace, but nothing will work except pouring it out to God. Don’t make the mistake of holding on to them. Sometimes we don’t want to face it; sometimes we are just accustomed to it. It is time to let it go. Deal with it. We may be afraid of it, God isn’t. Pour it out. Opening up won’t make it worse. It can stagnate like old milk. It can harden like old paint. It can build up pressure like a bottle of pop. If you’re in the position of saying you can’t do anything about it, remember God can!
Verse 8 says to trust in God at ALL times. The very time to trust him with all our heart is when we feel trapped, heavy and pressured. If we go on, we’ll be judged. Now God offers complete release. In fact, He invites you to come for a sure release. Since God knows already, we can trust him. He’s waiting to catch whatever we pour out. It doesn’t matter how rotten it is. God will cast it away as far as the east is from the west. He says for the heavy laden to come because his yoke is easy. We are to cast our care upon him because he cares for us.
When we pour it out, there will be a vacancy. God takes advantage of empty spaces and fills them with himself. He stands at the door and knocks. Open it just a crack. Pour it out, and let God come in. The more of God we have in our heart, the less room there is for junk. We can tell others what’s going on; all anyone can do is offer a shoulder. We only have to tell God. We can have complete confidence in him. He won’t shout it out or nail us to the wall. When you begin to pour it all out before our Lord, He’ll catch it , properly dispose of it, and come with his healing salve of love and grace to heal the scars left behind and make things right.
How do you start? By faith, open the door. Pour in out and pray. Pray not just to him but before him. The scripture says “pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.” When you pour it out, he’ll be the refuge. Is it possible? “Trust in him at all times.”
Now is the most needed time in your life. Pour it out; He’ll catch it.
