Because Thou Hast Kept, I Will Keep

Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

The last two churches mentioned in Rev. 3 are typical of the two different types of churches existing in these last days. The Laodicean church is like so many today, lukewarm, worldly, compromised,  with Jesus on the outside and the church on the inside. The church at Philadelphia knew what worship of false gods was. They knew the seat of Satan and had nothing to do with it. Both were given a choice. We are given a choice.

“Because though hast kept, I will keep.” We should be thankful these words exist. It’s refreshing that there is a church that is trying to carry on for the Lord. Jesus offered his letter in verse 7. HE IS HOLY. HE IS PURE. HE IS TRUE. Without this we have no hope. HE IS OUR HOPE.

There is so much deception today. We have the source of truth. Jesus said he has the key of David. It fits every lock, every door that will ever be before us whether it is open, closed or revolving. We can’t open and shut the doors. God says he can shut a door and no one can open it. He says he can open a door and no one can shut it.

The world has gone crazy. He’ll take care of us. We can be like Laodicea. We can keep Jesus on the outside. The only door he will not open is the door of our heart. We have to open it ourselves. We can be like Philadelphia. Within our own ability we can do some things. But we have no ability to control things like our health for example. It is within our ability to keep Jesus and his word. He can open any door under any circumstance or occasion. There is no reason why we can’t let him. We have his word. Even though we may not feel good doesn’t mean we have to backslide. Salvation is designed for every situation, every moment. We can be a Christian. We can keep him.

Because we keep him, he promised to keep us. He has the ability to keep what we cannot. And He alone can keep us from that to which we are defenseless. We are no match for the devil. In the hour when Satan is right up in our face, Jesus will slide in between us and keep us in the hour of temptation and trouble.  It’s not up to us to do; it’s all up to him. A commentator said that one year from now we will be wishing for what we have today. There is a gloomy forecast. Whatever comes in 2009 God will keep us through it when we keep him where he should be.

He keeps us and he keeps us for something. We have a home in heaven; an inheritance that fades not away. We may be on the brink of the end but it won’t be the end of old Bob Surber. It won’t be the end for you who are saved! We are saved from evil; through the bad there is something far better. This may be the end of the earth. We cannot do anything about it. We can have a new body, a new city with sweet air and untold beauty. We may go to sleep and wake up there.

Verse 12 says he will give us a new name and we will walk with him. Forget about the commentators. Sure we need to listen and know what is going on, but the main Commentator and Advisor is the Lord. We have to listen to him; we must listen to him.

Because we keep, HE WILL KEEP!
