Psalm 27:13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
The Lord worked through David to write some beautiful psalms. Some were of thanks. Some were of praise. David expressed his soul. He ruled as a king and fed like a shepherd. There was no iron fist; there was a shepherd’s staff. He helped his people politically, physically and spiritually.
David seems to repeat some things over and over. We might think he should have moved on. Evidently God thinks we need help on certain subjects. God’s not senile; we are contentious. One of those subjects we need help on is PATIENCE; waiting on the Lord. Verse 14 says “wait on the LORD……( Isreal, did you hear me??) wait I say, on the LORD." We have done it. We make God repeat himself.
We say, “Ah, I don’t have trouble with that.” We think we do a good job at waiting. We don’t. Do we trust him and “take inaction?" In some areas we are to wait—do nothing. Our nature is to take action. God wants us to take inaction; to just wait and trust him.
We want everything now. Go. Go. Go. We take a jet to travel; Jesus walked. We are the hare; God is the tortoise. It’s hard to wait. Sometimes it’s hard to trust. Waiting on the Lord is letting HIM GO FIRST. God isn’t going to take care of it. He’s taking care of it now. WAIT I SAY!
In the trying things—difficult experiences, things hard to endure, pain—-the hardest thing to do is nothing. Remember this morning. Jehovah Shammah. The Lord is There. We can afford to wait. He is there!
We don’t need to ask why and how and what time. It doesn’t take God such and such time to do anything. He can do it at the snap of a finger. We should never ask “where are you, Lord” or “where were you when…” It’s a wonder he doesn’t whip us. Our troubles can make us wait. The Bible says our steps are ordered by the Lord. Remember that our stops are as well. When we can’t do anything, those stops are there.
Of course he answers prayer. Of course he can work things out. WAIT! How come it is so hard to do nothing? Have you ever tried to sit for one hour and do nothing—NOTHING? We say, “Don’t just sit there, do something.” God says, “Don’t just do anything, sit there!” We get ahead of God.
We need to quit taking control and answer our own prayers. Don’t try to hurry up the Lord. It’s time to be still. It’s time to wait. How far are you in front of God in your situation? The best thing you and I can do it wait!
