Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own
understanding. 6 In all thy ways
acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from
evil. 13 Happy is the man
that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
The whole world seems overwrought with the world crisis.
Everyday we see and hear of bailouts. We have no idea what’s ahead. God has a
rescue plan; it’s tailor made and approved by the highest authority. No representatives
are needed to approve it first. It is approved AND proven by God himself. The
security and success of it is as our response to the revelation of God in
Genesis. Electricity is no good if we don’t use it. To be of help to
us, God’s plan must be implemented. We can hardly fathom the potential of
electricity, and the same if with God.
Seems like every morning we see a new problem on the news
and a new expert who wants to solve it for us. The expert answers are in the Word
of God. Verse 1 tells us not to
forget God’s law and to keep his commandments. We need to seek God and connect
with him through the Word. We have such an intelligent world; we know about technology;
we’re academic minded. Yet we can be ignorant of the Word of God.
Treat others in the right way. Verse 3 says not to forsake mercy and truth. Let’s not be selfish.
Let’s be honest-to-goodness Christians who are considerate and friendly, not
caught up in ourselves.
Don’t tell God how it ought to work. He accepts no
conferences on; there is no working out deals. As verse
5 says we are to trust in the LORD and not our own understanding. We can’t
help God, but he sure can help us. Would we have enough trust to stand on the 5th
floor of a building and jump to safety with a few people holding only a bed
sheet to catch us? God won’t drop us. We
don’t have to figure things out. God has already done it. How many times have
we shut the door on certain rooms when someone visits our house so they won’t
see the mess? We need to invite God into the messiest rooms in our heart and
life. Do we give him entrance to only the living room or out best room? We need
to give him access to the attic, the basement and every room in between. Let him
straighten up the house. Acknowledge God; we can be assured of his direction.
Verse 7 tells us
not to look upon our own wisdom; we are to fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
We should respect the Lord and identify our sins and not give into them. Honor
God’s substance. Let’s not cut back on the Lord.
Let’s be submissive to God’s direction and correction. Verse 11 says “My son, despise not the
chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction.” We need to be
steer-able. There are many voices telling us which way to go. We let so many
things crowd God out. We need to be in the condition that God can steer us. We
do need the correction and discipline of God. Correction is not enjoyable no
matter where it comes from, but it makes us a better person.
Even in times like today, are we willing to be steered? Are
we willing to follow God’s rescue plan?
