Ephesians 4: 1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord,
beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 With all lowliness and meekness,
with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to
keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one
body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5
One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is
above all, and through all, and in you all. 7 But unto every one of us
is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 8
Wherefore he saith, when he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and
gave gifts unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he
also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that
descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he
might fill all things.) 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some,
prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For
the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of
the body of Christ:
Our gifts come from Christ. We work. Two are more than one.
Three are more than two. We work to get the gospel out, taking advantage of
even gifts to Salvation Army angel trees. Give a Bible. A pastor is a gift from
God and a vital worker. Some people want preachers to pick the “good” from the
Bible and leave the “bad” alone. Preach no blood. Tickle their ears. Those
preachers will answer for that. Today people hear this and that. If a pastor
won’t preach their way, they get rid of him or go to another church. It’s their
way or the highway. There is one way to
heaven and that is by Jesus Christ.
A pastor is always on duty. Here are some ways to build up a pastor.
1) Attendance:
nothing will help more than coming to church. Prayer meeting itself gets us
through the week. We need the hump day fellowship.
2) If
you see something that needs to be done, do it. Ask what you can do for him.
3) Recognize
he is a gift from God. He shares his knowledge with us. God gave him to us.
4) Regard
him as a guide. The pastor is a shepherd. A shepherd gives attention to the
sheep. He wants none to go astray. A pastor can give you good advice. He will
pray for you. He is responsible for what comes in and goes out of the church—he
is cautious in who he allows to preach to us. Shepherds lead us into green
pastures. He watches for the dangers. He gives us spiritual food. He walks
through the valleys with us. He is a
source of goodness and mercy. He doesn’t run from us.
5) He
gives himself. He prays for us. He thinks about us—keeps us on his mind. Even though Bob can’t speak right now, we can
still feel his love.
6) A
pastor mends fences. He is a mediator. He listens to both sides. So not only a preacher,
he is a counselor.
7) We
don’t think much of the fatigue of a pastor. We’ll never know what he has on
his mind that he never shares. Encourage him. Pray for him. Become his prayer
partner.
8) Anyone
who is saved is a minister of the gospel. We are to get God’s Word out there
ourselves. Ask the pastor what you can do to help him. Take some stress off
him. Be his partner is reaching
souls. The time for the Lord to come
back is closer than ever. Become a soul winner.
Encourage. Pray. Build up the pastor.
