34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's
sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the
flock: 35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. 36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this
uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied
the armies of the living God.
37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of
the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me
out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and
the LORD be with thee.
Before a ball game there is "team talk." You might hear things like "we'll wipe the floor with them." They are talking victory before the game. If we look to the Lord we can have our victory before the battle as well.
David heard the Philistine making fun of God. He didn't like it. He looked at the giant but did not fear him. He had defiled the name of God. David knew the battle must be fought. In verse 46 we see the battle talk. "This day will the Lord deliver thee into my hand; and I will smite thee." He got five smooth stones. These represent cleansing. There were no jagged edges that would keep it from going where David wanted. If we let the water of the Holy Spirit bathe us, we will be smooth and cleansed. David killed Goliath and talked his victory before the battle.
We have to fight the same way. Jesus is our hope; He is our victory. We have someone to fight the devil for us. It's time to take hold of the altar. We can stand on the authority of God's word and claim victory. Jesus fought the devil at Calvary with us in mind. We can trust Him and the mountains will be ours.
Submit to the Lord and His will. Grasp what He says. Know in whom you have believed. Through and by Jesus Christ we have the victory!
