She Did What She Could

The message was brought by Bro Jack Sprinkle

Mark 14:3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he
sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of
spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured
it on his head.

4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?
5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.

7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.
8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.

God does not expect more of us that we can give. We can handle the talents He gives us. The man who received one talent would have been rewarded as much as the one who had five if he had used it instead of burying it. God loves us; He made us; He wants us to be everything we can for Him.

At the judgment I will not be judged against what Billy Graham or some other great preacher has been. I'll be judged according to how I handled the job God gave me to do. The same is true for us all. We have different talents, different jobs to do in the kingdom of God. We'll be accountable for what we did with our job, not that of someone else.

The woman in today's scripture was looked down upon and put to shame because of what she did. But she did what she could. She wasn't like Paul; all she did was pour out ointment. She wasn't a builder of churches. She was no king or inventor. Look how many names and acts of kings have been forgotten. Still today we are talking about this woman. Why?  Because she did what she could.  Jesus told them to leave her alone. He just expects us to do all we can–what He has called us to do.

What is small in the eyes of the world may be the opposite in the eyes of the Lord. Some of us may not be as important as we think we are when it comes judgment time. If we have not done what God has called us to do, God is not pleased. He is not looking for perfection. He's looking for those who will do what they can. Will we all make our minds up today to do the best we can for the Lord?
