Mark 5
22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the
synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, 23
And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of
death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be
healed; and she shall live. 24 And Jesus went with him; and much
people followed him, and thronged him.35 While he yet spake, there came
from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter
is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further? 36 As soon as Jesus
heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be
not afraid, only believe. 40 And
they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the
father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in
where the damsel was lying. 41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and
said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto
thee, arise.
Frustration is a phase we go through at times. Have you ever been so frustrated that you say "why bother?" Do we do that sometimes with God? Do we say "why bother?" Well, there is a reason to bother Him because of who we're bothering.
Jairus came to Jesus; his daughter was very sick, at the very point of death. He came respectfully; he was polite yet desperate. Why–because he loved his daughter and she was dying. He made his way to Jesus; notice his faith. It's not written what Jesus said to him, but He went right away with Jairus.
Then they got side tracked. The woman with the issue of blood wanted to get to Him. I'm sure she knew the desperation of Jairus. She didn't want to bother Jesus. She just wanted to touch His garment. When she did, Jesus paused and took time to talk to her. We don't know how long He talked with her. It was during this pause that things changed at Jairus' home. They turned to go to the home of Jairus. Verse 25 states "while he yet spake, there came from the ruler of
the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why
troublest thou the Master any further?"
Why trouble Him? Why bother Him? She is dead. It is believed by the early church fathers that this servant was Thomas, the one who later would be a disciple. He's in a position of doubt here. He said there's no need to bother Jesus; she's dead. He thought the situation was beyond Jesus. He thought Jesus could have helped if the girl had not died.
Remember the limitation is on us; it's not on Jesus. No matter how low, no matter how much is going on, it is never out of reach of the Master! Do we reach a certain point and feel it's too late? Why bother? It is never hopeless. Never give up and say nobody, not even the Lord, can help. NEVER SAY THAT! Jairus was heart broken. They all were filled with "ifs." What if? If?…. Look squarely at those ifs, whatever they are. Jairus still had Jesus by his side. We too have Jesus right by our side. Jesus looked at them and said "be not afraid." It's as if He says, "It's no trouble; you're not bothering me. Don't worry about it, for I am not. Just believe."
Jesus told the crowd she was only sleeping. I'm sure they laughed. He sent all out of the room except Peter, James, John and her parents. Death may be our limit, but it is not with Jesus. He is Life and our reason to trust. He told the girl to rise. She did right then, and hungry at that! It was no trouble to the Master.
Bothering Jesus will never happen. We should be a headache to Him, but we are not. He wants us to bother Him. Try it tonight and see if you can bother Him.
