John 2
23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day,
many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did. 24
But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, 25
And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.
Do you desire revival in your heart? The preacher will come, but he is not responsible for revival. Don't say things like "God bless the revival." Pray! The devil is coming strong. We need to quit treating serving and worshiping Our Lord as a ritual. Satan worshipers are very sincere about their worship. We have the true and living God, yet we come to church and pray out of habit. The time for lukewarmness is over. With this mindset there is no use to go through the habit of revival. We need it and the frame of mind to make it happen. We need one more than we want one. Do what it takes to have it. The devil is zeroing in. Jesus will take those who are Christians, not those who only profess to be one.
That said, we see in this scripture that commitment is not an option. We can't take it or leave it. Jesus did not commit himself to those people. God help us to realize we need to set Jesus in the place He should be.
In verse 24 we read that "Jesus did not commit himself unto them." Everything has to do with faith. He threw over the money changers. He performed miracles while there in Jerusalem. The people believed that God had sent their Messiah. You would have thought that Jesus would have been happy that they saw Him as that, for He was. But, as it says in verse 25, "he knew what was in man." He would not commit Himself to them.
They were committed to Him being their King, not their Savior. He did not need their recommendation to make Him who He was. He doesn't depend on you or me either. If all forsook Him, He would still be God and Savior. He doesn't need our endorsement. He doesn't need us, but He loves us. He's not letting them down, so why did He not commit? There is good reason.
These people didn't want a Savior but a King. For their own good He did not give into that. For our own good He will not change. Many today don't want Jesus as He is; they want someone more pleasing to them. We don't need to worry about God pleasing us; we'd better worry about pleasing Him. Jesus is not committed to to obey us but rule us. We pray as if we are giving God orders. He needs no instruction from us for He knows more than we do. He's committed to being our Lord. We need to sit down and let Jesus make us what He wants us to be. He won't bend the rules for any of us. Don't get mad at Him when He doesn't answer a prayer the way we think He should. It's not our wishes, but our needs, that matter. Yet we get aggravated with God. We all do it, and then we get mad and lay out of church. It's like the fits I pitched when daddy didn't give me what I wanted.
We can't strike up a deal with God. Salvation is not a bargain we strike with the Lord. It's a commitment we give freely even if we get nothing out of it. God blesses us; yet He spoils us. If we got what we deserve we'd be in hell. I need to let Him put the strings on me and let Him pull them and direct me. Obedience is better than sacrifice. It's better than just getting what we want. Sometimes we don't get the answer we want because He does know what is in us. He may see something we don't see. He knows us better than we know ourselves. Sometimes we're the last ones to know who we are.
He could let us have it or do it the way we want, but He knows what we'd be if we always got what we want. Thank God for making decisions for us and not giving us something just because we ask for it. Thank God that He is not committed to giving us everything we want– BUT He is committed to our good concerning everything. Sometimes the only way for us to learn is by hearing "no." Let Jesus truly be the Master. Ask in faith accepting His will. Then we can seek and find. We can ask and it shall be given us. We can knock and it will be opened to us.
Let's trust Him with all our heart. It's time to commit ourselves to Him, and thank Him for His non-commitment.
