The Inevitable Confession

There is a confession we don't want to own up to. It is a two-fold realization and comes before the confession….and it means everything. First, I am a failure. Second, God is not.

Have you come to this realization? If you say no, then you need to reconsider. What is more prominent, our successes or our failures? David spoke of his private thoughts, but they have spoken for everyone down through the ages to read. We need the courage to say it. Psalm 73:26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

It's one thing to say "I fail." It's another thing to say "I'm a failure." We have no trouble acknowledging that every now and then we fail, but let's look at the truth. David uses this in the present tense. My flesh faileth. My heart, inside and out, continually fails. The scripture teaches this fact. We failed yesterday. We have failed today. And if tomorrow comes, we will fail. Can any of us say we are in the perfect will of God? David made a confession, a real one, that we don't want to admit. We see the faults of others and easily and deliberately say they are wrong; it doesn't go unnoticed. Why is it hard to see our own faults? When we take a look at ourself, do we see a failure? We should, and we need to ask forgiveness for it. Jesus is our Savior today because we need him today. He is not stepping on us. God sent his Son and through his success he reaches to our failures. That's why we are saved today. That's why we'll make it to heaven. God doesn't fail, and He doesn't fail me!

The sun comes up. The sun goes down. The stars come out, and time goes on. It's all under the power of God. We must know that GOD NEVER FAILS. We cannot say we don't. David admitted he was in failure mode. With all going on around him at the time of his writing he was almost to the point of thinking that God fails….UNTIL…. he got to God's house. He then realized it was not the failure of the wicked. It was not the failure of God. He realized the failure was him. Even though he was the king he still had to admit he was a failure. We cannot think too much of ourselves and not be aware of our own weakness.

David's actions, deeds, and words, just like ours, showed his condition. Have we gone the last month without failure? Have we gone the last week? The last day? Today? Have we not failed in our heart and mind? We thought something bad about others. We've had evil thoughts. We say it's because we are in the flesh. We need to just admit it; we fail. If I should not do it and do, I've failed. If I don't do it and should, I fail. Within ourselves there is no hope. Bob Surber fails. I can't help your failures; it will be the blind leading the blind and we'll fall in the ditch. I need Jesus. You need Jesus. Why? He's the only one you and I know who has NEVER FAILED.

Moses told Joshua not to be afraid to take over for him after his death. He told him God would be with him and would not forsake him. Joshua was scared. God came to him. He said something this one time. He's not said it since. There is no need to say it again. In Joshua 1:5 we see that God said "as I was with Moses, so I will be with three: I WILL NOT FAIL THEE, or forsake thee." We tell God we'll do this and we'll do that, but all we do is keep failing to do it. We must get off our pedestals or we will fall flat. David confesses, and the sooner we do the better off we'll be. It's important to know that God will not forsake us even in our failure. He says "I will not fail thee." Consider that. Has God ever failed you?

Let's face the fact of who we are and who God is. God has not failed. He does not fail. He will not fail. Is this the truth? I must preach it. Once in history God said "I WILL NOT FAIL." Instead of saying it time after time, he just proves he doesn't. We have all come short of the glory of God; that's our failure. He reached through his own glory and delivered us from our failure. He alone sets us free.

When David was knocked down by his own failure, he did not accept his condition, but God did accept him in his failed condition. We need to let God "fix" us and I guarantee HE WILL NOT FAIL!
